Bedliner: Did It Myself!
Last Sunday I, (ok, and my brother-in-law) labored for about 3 hours applying a roll on bedliner. I must say in my humble opinion it came out pretty good! Between the new Titan purchase and saving up for a cap, I decided do be a little resourseful. My friend gave me a spare "do it yourself" bedliner kit made by Rustoleum. It is called a "Road Warrior" kit. It comes with a part A and B which activate when mixed together giving you about 3 hours to work with. When dried, it has a hard gritty finish and is also composed of used car tires. You also get a samall roller sponge with roller, 2" brush, soft sanding block and a mixer bit that attathes to a drill. You need your own drill, rags, rubbing alcohol, and paint tray. The alcohol is used on a rag when cleaning up the paint dust after sanding. I removed the (8) 12 mm bolts and 4 metal tie downs from the bed (of course re-install after application dries). I did not remove the rubber plugs on the floor of the bed but chose to roll over them, the water flees the bed through the bottom of the tailgate good enough. It must be a nice sunny day without rain in the forecast for a day or two. My XE did not have a bedliner and it was the same shiney silver as the rest of the truck. Talk about having a "PUCKER" effect as you occupy your bed scratching and ruffing up all the nice paint. I must admit I started to doubt myself but we went on. The kit comes with full instructions on how to apply in steps and there is enough for an 8' bed which is plenty. I believe the cost of the kit to be about $25. Unfortunately I do not have photos or know how to post them. If you do your own, remember to take your time at every step and it will come out fine. Even with a minor imperfection or two: 1- nobody is climbing in there to look for it, 2-nobody can see in there or until you point it out, 3- I'm putting a cap on anyway! Honestly, I got compliments and have no regrets!
