What does this DVD player play? DVD-R/+R, -RW/+RW? Can you play divx or xvid on it? VCD's or SVCDs?

divx and xvid are just more codec that allow higher quality compression on movies.

RS250R,

System looks great. Exactly what I would like to do on my SE CC Bench. However, I am electricly challanged. Honesty how hard was this install? How much did the system and parts cost? Any strange splicing or rigging? Thanks for the answers. I will have to build up much confidence before I try to tackle this one.

Jared

My dealer here in Atlanta was willing to do this for me for $1000.00. I was able to do it myself for ~$675. I do have some electrical apptitude but there was no wierd splicing. As explained earlier in the thread, I added terminal ends and wires to connector M46 in order to tap into the "factory" DVD audio input. It is all explained above and should be pretty easy for someone to follow, even if you get the parts and have a local shop do the install. Just print the thread and they should be able to get it done. The toughest thing is to get the terminal ends... you have to go to your local dealer's parts department and ask them to go above and beyond the call. They have to get the terminal ends from their "2004 Nissan Electrical Repair Kit". My parts department guy is great!!! I needed 6 terminal ends and he gave me 10..... in case I messed any up crimping them to the wires (they do not sell these). I do not know the part number on the terminal end but I was amazed at how small they were but then again there is not much amperage/voltage going thru those wires.

I have the spare terminal ends... I will try to get a picture of them and post them here to help if you decide to go that route. Most folks do not, they just go thru the AUX input and are done with it. Some, as mentioned earlier in this thread, just go with a portable player... and that is fine too. I have one for my wife's trooper, "Wal-ly World for $277, 2 screens, 1 player, carrying case, remote, etc........... anyway.

If you have more questions do not hesitate to ask.

Nick

What are the pros/cpns of your way vs using the aux? I know that I will not be satisfied with the FM modulator system, but I do not know about the aux.

Thanks again

Basically you direct your player output into the AUX Input. The plugin can be seen on your dash. You would however tap into (splice) the wires behind the dash. Easy enough and requires little effort, however there is a drawback. Most folks have to use a line-level amplifier to raise the output from the player to an acceptable level so they do not have to crank the head-unit volume way up for good sound.

This means extra cost for the Line-Level Amp. Also, the AUX channel does not drive the IR transmitters that are on your rear seat controls. Not necessarily the end of the world since the Myron&Davis monitor has it's own IR transmitters built into the monitor. I chose not to use those because I wanted full factory functionality. I can select the DVD channel from the rear controller. The zone control features work so the kids can listen to whatever they want in the back, and the wife and I have what we want up front. Little things like that....

Hope that helps
