I'm considering the purchase of an mp3 player for my Titan. I've been looking at the 20 gig iPod ($299) and the 20 gig Dell DJ ($195). Anyone have an opinion on either of these units or have any other good suggestions?
I have an iPod (absolutely love it) and now just got the Alpine interface so I get control at the head unit (and steering wheel), text display and it charges the iPod.
Why are iPods great? They are tough (have dropped mine a couple times, run and ride my dirt bike with it), work awesomely and they are really good as a firewire hard drives, but the real reason is iTunes software, simple syncing, the music store and just plain ease of use. Have not bought a CD in a year, just buy the songs I like off the music store.
40gig iPod all the way. User menus are easy to get through. Accessories are aplenty. Apple basically started the portable MP3 market, everyone else has just been trying to get a foothold in it. So it would seem to me that they are going to have the best player on the market, seeing how it is the driving economic force behind their company now (don't think that they would become complacent and neglect their best product).
Battery life could be better, but in the end, how often are you going to need more than 10 continious hours of play time without charging? Buy a Belkin car charger and plug it straight into the charger and aux port....ready to go. iTunes is easy to navigate around in, quite a bit of music, although often times run into problems of not being able to find what I want, but that's what newsgroups are for.
But they are all fairly compact and portable, some more so than others. I think that the iPod is extremely durable and realiable, with a simple design and great performance.
I am going to finish this rambling, non-sensical endorsement now because I just re-read and realized that I am really starting to sound like a geek!

I really wanted an iriver hp120, but the price is kinda high. It went on sale at BB for $245, but none in stock. I just purchased a Dell DJ 20 GB player for $179 shipped so we will see how that is.

My MP3 player is a Fujitsu P series 1120 laptop with an 800Mh Crusoe processor, 256 megs of ram and a 30 gig HD. It also has 10/100 nic and built in wireless. The unit also doubles as my Navigation system with a CF GPS, oh, and it is also a touch screen. I have included a pic, it is the smaller of the two. The unit hooks up straight to the aux input on the Armada and the same goes for the after market stereo in my truck.
