Stereo question

I have a quick question. The other day on my way home from work I was flipping through channels. I came across one that ofcourse came in stereo, but then all of a sudden it started texting the type of music that channel puts out, "the best of 80's 90's and so on". I have never seen it before. I have the up graded 6 disc changer and 8 speakers I believe. Now all my other stattions come in stereo and are all good. Also what is the little "b" that comes up on the top left. I maybe dumb here, I didnt see anything in the manual... maybe I scanned through it to quick.

Only certain stations send out that signal. Mine has been picking up station names here in Paducah no problem. I was supprised when I went down to Memphis and they were broadcasting the artist and title as well...

I'm not certain but it might be what the RDS does, Radio Description Service? I'm randomly guessing, it has a name and I cannot for the life of me remember if its RDS or something else. It was a new technology back when I worked at the stereo shop, everyone was buzzing about it...

Not sure if it will be in the manual or not, but hope that helps. I dont believe it is a setting you can adjust, either that station broadcasts just the name, the name, artist, and title, or nothing...

Yes it's RDS. I think the "D" is for data. Although I didn't look at the manual today, I'm pretty sure it's mentioned. When you listen to a station that uses RDS, those letters will appear on the display along the top.
The "A" and "B" appear as you press the radio button, or the FM button (depending on which radio you have). This feature allows you to store more stations. The manual discusses it.

Thanks, I kind of liked the display but it may get annoying. I wish more stations did it.

Yes it is Radio Data System, it's been on the go in Europe since about 1992.
