Hi all,
I have the RF that actually sounds descent. No fade issues anyway. I was wondering if I upgrade the speakers, could I expect a better quality sound?
If it would, I am a novice at current stereo market. Could someone point me to some speakers that would work nice?
Thanks
The RF speakers are acutally pretty good for factory setup one of the best I have seen. As for upgrading for better sound you would need to upgrade the amp first that would make a big difference even if you kept the current speakers you have now. If your looking for speakers and don't want to spend alot of money Infinity's aftermarket have excellent sound quality. I would upgrade your amp and speakers both for the best SQ.
Look for a good four channel amp to power all your existing door speakers. That will make your stock speakers sound a lot cleaner and louder. Some other low cost coax speakers that are decent are alpine. Realistically in the under $100 range for 6.5 coax's everyone is pretty competitive, and all should sound good. Remeber you usually get what you pay for, so dont go too cheap. The biggest bang for your buck however will be to either upgrade your existing headunit to aftermarket, or add an additional amplifier. I think the benefit of just upgrading your speakers will be minimal without a larger amp.
WazzuCoug is right. The speaker upgrade alone won't benefit you without adding a amp. The factory speakers are pretty decent for factory. Alpine or Infinity for low end to midgrade would be my choice as well.
Thanks all,
Okay, I will start with amp. Are there any that are plug and play with a harness? Also, will I keep using existing amp that comes with RF along with new one? Any recommendations are welcomed! Like I said, little uneducated as far as current products.
No you can't use the factory amp with your new amp. I don't know of any plug and play harness for the Titan on the amp setup. You will need all the wiring to wire up the amp and for running the speakers. You will have to get a LOC as well..
Under drivers side dash. If you look strait up from the gas pedal you will see the amp mounted on a bracket with plugs...If you need the audio/video section of Service Manual I can email it to you..

Interesting, I would be interested to see how that Infinity amp handles the extremely low speaker output levels from the RF head unit. (smoketitan posted regarding this subject)
Scoshe makes connectors with pigtails that plug into the connections on the back of the head unit and to the factory harness that you can use to wire to an LOC. I think the part numbers are NN03 (plugs into the harness) and NN03RB (plugs into the head unit). What I am doing is using the Scoshe connectors/pigtails to solder to the speaker level inputs of an LOC which will be connected by RCA cables to a Matrix preamp from Audio Control which will be connected by a 4 channel RCA cable to the amplifier (not shown - yeah, I actually got something installed in the truck!). I plugged this stuff together on the kitchen floor to give you some concept. The big silver box with the white connectors in the back is the RF head unit (no RCAs out). The smallest box is the LOC.
If you have problems with the low level speaker outs on the RF headunit, there is supposed to be a really good low level LOC available in a couple of months.
Good post bestatchess! If needed he can get a line driver made my Phoenix Gold that kicks butt. It put's out I believe 8 or 12volt preout voltage. http://www.cardomain.com/item/PHOTLD66
I am curious as to what is wrong with the factory amp? It goes much louder than I would ever listen without distortion or breakups at all. It seems to me that upgraded speakers of appropriate efficiency would be a worthwhile upgrade even with the factory amp.
