Does everybody's new amp(s) turn on with the ignition? I was trying to find a wire that came on with the OEM head units on/off switch, so my amps would turn on & off with the OEM head unit. The "amp turn on" wire (blue with white stripe) from the OEM RF head unit goes to +12 V when the ignition turns on (at least it does on mine).

One last thing, how do I dismount the CD player from the dashboard? and were is a good place to drill the firewall to run the cable from the battery to the amp inside the truck. I see that you went across the engine, from the battery to the drivers side then inside the truck, why this way??
The central dash cover just pulls off. There are no screws. It is held by clips. After you pull it off, you have to disconnect the wire connectors on the back. The head unit is located behind the central dash cover, and is held in its bracket by four screws.

There are three locations that people have used to run the power cable through the firewall (w/o drilling):

1. There is a 1/2 hole with a rubber plug on the driver's side firewall, just above the hood latch release cable grommet. If you pull out the plug, you can make a hole in the plug, run your power cable through, and put the plug back in the hole to serve as a grommet so your power cable doesn't saw on the metal firewall.

2. Some people have run the power wire through the hood latch release cable grommet.

3. Some people have run the power cable through the A/C drain grommet on the passenger side firewall.

You are supposed to keep the power cable away from speaker & amp signal wires to avoid noise.

Grey wire with white stripe? Does that turn the amps on when the radio is turned on? Or with the ignition?

BTW, I am using a Peripheral (brand name) Model # LVT2 low voltage trigger for the remote on. It looks like a relay, but it is solid state and is supposed to trigger the +12V out with an input trigger signal as low as 0.6 Volt. It has the same leads as a relay: ground, constant 12V, trigger, and switched 12V out to remote ons.

It says you can use a speaker output wire for the trigger, but based on the extreme low signals from the RF speaker outs, they may not provide a constant .6V out. I am also afraid of introducing noise.

my amps turn on only when the radio comes on

originally I went from the green/white wire thats goes to the stock amp, just spliced into it and ran it back to my original two amps and they both truned on fine no problems of the stock deck

I then ran a relay (since I was plannig on running three amps tweets/mids/subs to run active) off the same signal line (bosch relay) and all amps turned on fine. fyi the bosch relay requried a 12v power line and ground from my amp power/ground

is that what you meant??

I didnt know peripheral made relays

I think the UI-4 will be the answer. I was just reading the manual for the UI-4 and it has really nice remote turn on features.

http://www.altomobile.net/user_manua..._Manual_V2.pdf

It takes awhile to download, but it eventually gets there.

you guys are the best... I have semester finals next week so I wont be able to start on this project until Dec 7, but as soon as I finish I will let you know how it went. I have been trying to pull out the cover of the head unit, you guys say that it is held by clips, but mine is not coming off that easy, where should I pull from? top and bottom or the sides? I think I'm going to use a screw driver to pull it out

You are risking marring the cover if you start prying on it with a screwdriver. Just grab it at one corner and pull toward the rear of the truck, hard. I usually start at the top left, but I don't think it matters. I think it would also be good if it was fairly warm inside the truck to reduce the possibility of the plastic cracking.

Hey Just to let anyone know... I had a single JL w-3 10" installed downward facing and it rocks, as loud as I need it too anyway. The shop that made the box for me said that they are capable of mass-producing it and they want to know if anyone is interested. It is only 1 cubic foot so I still have room under the other side of the seat. If anyone wants pics let me know

Chopper

The UI-4 LOC from www.altomobile.com is supposed to ship in January. It has music sensing remote amp turn on features, with delay.
