New Sound System

Well I finally stepped up to the plate and bought about 75% of my stereo components last night. Here is the rundown:
Kenwood DDX7015 HU
Kenwood KHD-C710 10 gig Music Keg
MB Quart RCE269 6x9" 2-Way Components (Front)
MB Quart RCE216 6.5" 2-Way Components (Rear)
JL Audio 300/4 Slash Series Four Channel Amp
Pac Swix Steering Wheel Control Unit

Still to be determined: Sub amp and sub. I am leaning towards a JL Audio 500/1 amp and a single Jl Audio 10" 10w7. Backup Camera.

Now I have some questions. I have done extensive searches on installing the HU and is it neccessary to buy a new dash kit? I have heard people install it with and without the XE dash kit. Also do you guys have any opinions on a sub and amp setup. I am not familiar with JL subs, but I have heard good things. Finally, can anyone recommend a good backup camera. Thanks and I will post a bunch of pics of the install when I can get around to it.

id get rid of the 6x9's and get another 6.5 set if I were you, and get a 450/4 as 75x4 is not enoough to push those mbquarts, they like power

and if you a w7, youll have to get two 8w7's as the 10w7 is too big

ther are many stereo posts to help you out-- search for "sub" or 'stereo'

i really like w7's but they are costly, some dont like them

Smoke is right! You need a better amp for that setup. I would get rid of the 6x9's and get 6.5 components. The 6.5's will sound better then 6x9's and give you more of a sound stage. As for the sub, I don't like JL because they are overpriced for the most part. The W7 will not fit in your truck unless you want to loose your back seat. That sub needs a huge enclosure to sound good. You need to consider Diamond, Eclipse, Cadence, Alpine, Image Dynamics, MB Quart, and Memphis to just name a few other options out there. If I was in your shoes I would go with Eclipse Subs all the way if you looking for PURE SQ. The Eclipse 7100 series subs would fit real nice under the rear seats and sound incrediable. They however need a good powerfuel amp to drive them, Eclipse likes to underrate there products.

I guess I will take out my back seat then.... JK. I contemplated getting 6.5" for the front, but I just went with the 6x9 instead. I didn't want to hassle making mounting rings and they are direct fit components. As for power on the amp I know I should have tried for a little more output, but I just couldn't justify forking over another $200 for the extra 25 watts/channel. I think 75/channel should be fine considering in my old car I had 35 per channel drving Kicker components and coaxials. Thanks for the all the suggestions regarding subs. My requirements basically are a 10" sub that doesn't require a huge box.

I ran the JL 500 X 1 with a WD-6 10" on my old F150. It has plenty of power, and the
bass is really low. It is bass you can feel rather than just hearing. A lot of people thought I had 2 -10's sometimes. Just be sure you have a big enough cap for your amps. I have Phoenix Gold 15 Farad that supplies plenty of power, it also means less cutting on your truck

Can some one fill me in on capacitors. I have an overall idea of what they do, but how big of cap should I run with my planned system?

You don't need a cap! Cap's store power and deliver the power when needed. With your setup you would benefit more with the proper grounding as SmokeTitan suggested.

I also have the RCE 269's on order, and will be putting 75 RMS to them. I think they will be more than fine. Maybe 6.5's would give a more pure sound, but I doubt if I could hear the difference. I like the direct fit of a 6X9, and having a larger speaker. I read a review of them and they did really good, and had a little more bass than a 6.5. Since I'm not mounting any big subs in the truck, I wanted as much out of the door speakers as possible.

I'm also NOT getting a cap, but just redoing the ground wires with some big 1/0 guage wire.

I still haven't decided on the rear door speakers, maybe the RCE216's as well, or the RCE 164 just for more midbass.

Here's the RCE 269 review, sounded good enough for me:

http://www.mbquart.com/2003/en_US/re...E269.pdf?ID=75

You've made some good choices there. It'll be fine.

I think I have verified this empirically, no apparent difference with 100 x 4 and 400 x 1 amps with & w/o one farad capacitor.
