Exclamation Hate the goofy chrome middle front bumper ?

I really dont care for the chrome middle in my SE's front bumper... I like the look of the chrome grill just not the bumper.

this may be a way for SE and LE owners to lose that feature without buying an XE's bumper cover and re-bar..

cool, but a nice beefy brush guard would meet my needs of protecting the 'bumperless-appearing frontend" and add a bit more attitude too ! ! !

I think it depends on the color of your truck but i didn't like the chrome on the bumper either, just on the grille. That is why i got an xe.

I painted my SE center to match the truck, then powdered the wheels, skid plate, rear bumper black. Then had B-Kool powder a full grill in black to match the other black parts.Next will be the door handles and mirror caps. No chrome at all left. My truck is Canteen and the black looks sweet on the green.

I'm not a fan of that chrome look either, why not just add chrome accents over the wheel wells, add 25" chrome wheels, then lower the thing to the ground. A bit to gawdy for me. However, I could live with it if I had to as many other trucks are just as guilty. However they at least offer a "SPORT APPEARANCE" option that covers all that chrome with color matched paint.

The first thing I see in my mind with all that chrome is the rust streaks and circles that will be all over it in the future, judging by the older chrome infested trucks out there.

Just not my bag.

BTW, I didn't pass on the SE because of that. I just passed because I didn't want to pay an extra $1500 on fluff items I didn't need on my truck. However, I wouldn't have an XE without the Off-Road Package as it adds fog lights, bigger tires, and alloy rims that I wouldn't be without on a new vehicle.

BTW, this is just my taste as not offend those who love that chrome look.

Oh yeah, that Stillen Grill has to go, it's just to Ford Friendly to look tuff on a monster truck.

Have a good one.

THe problem with painting over the chrome is the paint will be more succeptable to chipping, and since its on the bumper, you will be disappointed after getting pelted with sand, debris, etc and watching the paint chip away.

Cool! We saw that STillen bumper at the Mossy Motorsports show last month. Just a prototype.. wow they released that quickly.

That is kind of expensive though, considering it will cost you between $300-600 to get it custom color-matched by a body shop.

The nice thing is that the Stillen bumper is urethane, and *rumored* to be compatible with the supercharger for their blower coming out in '05.
The Volant RamAir scoop might even still work with this, since the tow hook holes look to be about the same size.
Good find! Thanks!

Who in their right mind would paint over chrome?? I stripped mine, primed it, then shot the D13 paint color to match. If you pull it apart yourself, then shooting it is cheap, at least it was for me. I will post some pics this weekend. I do quite a bit of desert running and have no chips or nicks any worse than a SoCal freeway will give you.

I knew they would come out with a bumper as soon as I bought the XE one! Oh well. Now does that go over the stock chrome bumper or does that come with all the hardware and brackets to convert to the XE style cover? The XE bumper I bought came with brackets, supports, all kinds of parts. I don't think that looks all that different anyway. I can tell you this though, none of the grill inserts will fit that opening now.
