Connect Myron & Davis DVD to factory audio

I know that some of you have had success connecting an aftermarket DVD system into the factory wiring for the DVD player. I purchased the Myron & Davis screen and DVD player. I have a question for those of you who have already installed this system. The DVD player only has RCA outputs for the video and audio. As far as the video goes, that is perfect since the screen accepts RCA as it's input. Since I want to use the factory audio to play the DVD audio, I want to use the left and right channel wiring as outlined in the service manual. One problem...I am not sure if I can connect the RCA output wiring to the wires from the stock setup. How has everyone else done this? The DVD player I have is the AD212. I have noticed that others have used the AD256T and I am considering upgrading. Does the AD256T also use RCA connectors only?

I would greatly appreciate everyone's help with this!

RadioShack has wires that have RCA on one end and bare wire on the other. I can't remember which one is which but the conductors are a dark and a light color for + & - hookup.

The way I did it I just took a set of rca plugs and stripped them myself. the center wire is the (+) and the covering wire is the (-). then I tapped into the factory wiring and worked great.

Is the procedure for locating the Factory DVD/etc connector the similar in a CrewCab with Bench seats? I have some sort of drink holder directly below the stereo and I assume it must be behind there? I have everything else mounted and just need to make the final connection from my DVD player into the factory 6 disc changer.

Its not there with a bench seat. Get with RS250R on how you need to add the wiring.

the DVD Player was not an option for a CC Popular w/bench, so there is no "factory wiring" available. you will need to add the wires to connector M-46 in order to tap into the factory head unit. the male posts are on the factory head unit and work... there are just no corresponding terminal ends/wires for this purpose in connector M-46.

M-46, by the way, is one of the main connectors plugging directly into the factory head unit so it will be necessary to remove the faceplate and radio/CD changer to get to it. M-46 will be missing wires/terminal ends for points 35-40. I have a post in a thread started by llajumpvid, i think, that details all this. the main trouble you will have is getting the 6 spare terminal ends to put into connector/plug M-46 in order to add the wires you want. i have been promising to take a picture of the terminal end and post it here but have been really preoccupied at work.... now that our company has been acquired, it looks like i just might have some involuntary free time and will be able to get that done ;^(

anyway, i have the ends and the camera sitting on my desk at home so it should be done this week. the terminal ends are tiny and take a 20 guage or smaller wire. the only place I was able to find them was at Nissan in the dealers "Electronics/Electrical Spares Kit" and had to rely on the good will of the parts guy since they do not sell these. Pic to follow shortly... I promise...

OK. Finally.... here are the pics of the terminal ends that go in Connector M-46 for the missing wires if you have a CC SE popular w/bench. I know the pictures are not the best but they should help. Plus I will add some additional description below.

The terminal ends are approximately 9/16 of an inch in length... and approximately 1/16 in across at the head...

Maybe Jamie can compare these pics and specs against his spare parts kit and come up with a part number.... maybe.

Thanks for all the info on this. I finally got everything hooked up in my truck. I noticed that the audio level seems quite low from the DVD in comparison to the radio and CD. Has anyone added a small line level booster between the DVD and stock radio?

I did not have too... I still bought one but did not install it as the level on mine was fine. I know llajumpvid had problems with his level and he installed a PIE line level amplifier. Guess it just depends on the unit. If you go with the line level amp you might want to get a noise filter as well. I have heard that some trucks need them and some dont. Must be differences in the units themselves or who knows it could just be difference in the mid-level C.R.A.P. radio....

Mine sounds fine with the PIE amp and no filter. I think actually the PIE amp has a built in filter.

I found my problem with the audio level. I forgot to check the volume on my DVD player. It was set at 1. I maxed out the volume on the DVD player, and now the audio level is great!

jfiischer- Did you end up using the terminal ends or did you utilze some other technique to connect the wires to the head unit.

I have a CC so I went to my dealer and purchased the center console wiring harness with the connections for the stock DVD player. This was any easy changeout. I removed the center console from my truck, and replaced the current harness with the new one. I then just used the service manual and found which wires were the ones I needed and made my connections. Everything you will need will be on this new harness and the connectors are right were I wanted them since I placed my DVD player in the stock location.

If you are going to put the DVD player in the glove box or some other place, I would just using the wiring at the front of the console (no need to purchase anything or add any terminal ends. There are 2 plugs just underneath the front top of the console (If I remember correctly, one is white and one is gray). One will have a connector in it going to the center console, and the other will be empty. I am not sure which wires are what on these connectors, but I am sure that it is in the service manual.

Yep, the original harnesses will work just fine provided you have a CC w/ center console and not the Popular w/bench... If you have no center console, then you have a different wiring harness.

Congrats on getting it working!
