13.3" Flipdown TV install - COMPLETED w/ Pics

sup fellas,

just got my 13.3" flip tv. my question is, does anyone know where i can get a "blank" overhead console? the stock one is too narrow for the monitor to fit. i removed the console and the opening is way too big to accomodate the tv. i thought of getting a 1/2" plexiglas and use it a backboard, but i have no idea where to get it locally so i can get it custom cut.

TIA,
Wil

UPDATE: 12/23/04

just finished completing the install. took about a total of 6 hours to install everything. the headrest tv's and visor tv were a piece of cake to install. the flipdown tv took much of my time cuz i needed to fabricated a backboard using a cutting board and wrapped it with dynamat. the PS2 can only be played on the flipdown and the Pyle DVD player can be played on all tv's. as you can see in the pic, i can play PS2 while watching a movie at the same time. next is to upgrade the factory speakers and add a sub.

,
Wil

I found that car stereo installers generally have some connections for fabrication of eacatly what you need. That is what I found locally, as we move to do the big TV thing soon....

thanks for the reply, i've tried that already but they were charging me and arm and a leg...im just gonna have to improvise something. i went and got a 15"x20" plastic cuttingboard in black from a local restaurant supplier. i will use this as a backboard and to cover the hole since i have removed the rear overhead console permanently. i will post pics when finished.

Partsexpress.com has sheets of plastic used for stereo installs that might work. Not sure exactly how you are putting things together but what about checking with an upholstry shop to have them make a cover?

What brand/size are your headrest monitors? Very nice install. The cutting board looks good.

Wow man you did all that yourself??

how long did that take??

how come you decided on the flip down and the headrest monitors??

may I ask how you routed the wires into the headrests for the monitors??

Smoke,

Yup, i did all the install and fabrications....took about 6-7 hours

i was just gonna do the headrests but the flipdown i couldn't pass, 65% off MSRP, and its hooked up for the PS2. all 4 monitors can play DVD movies simultaneously and the flipdown can be switched to PS2 while the rest are in DVD mode.

as for the wires on the headrest. its routed inside the upholstery. the only thing visible is about 3" of cable next to the headrest post. you cant really see it since the the headrest are all the way down. NOTE: in one of the pic, you can actually see a cable stickin out right below the passenger seat, i did that to give a lil slack so the seat can be adjusted without yanking the cable.
