Replacing Dash Tweeters

I need some help finding a good replacement for the in dash tweeters on the SE model. I want to mount them under the existing dash grille. I know they are 2 3/4" and 4 ohm but need a link to a good replacement. Have been looking for over two hours now with no luck. Any recomendations???

Not going to find a good 2.75" tweeter direct fit replacement. But lots of good tweeters out there, all of them smaller, that can be "made to fit".

Yeah, exactly! Any tweeter you find will most likely come with mounting hardware and plastic pieces to fit just about any 'appropriate' opening. If you buy from Crutchfield you will get more free goodies to help the installation. Most tweeters of any quality that you will find will be just over 1". You can simply fab a small piece of plastic (ABS) and drill holes for those plastic mounting pins to clip through and mount your new tweeter in this piece. Drill the appropriate size hole for your new tweeter in your replacement piece of ABS with a hole saw and trim any burrs off with a small file so that your new tweeter fits snugly. Let us know how it goes and show pics!!!

Are you upgrading other speakers too, or just the tweeters?

pciley is absolutely correct, go to www.crutchfield.com or go to this link that shows exactly what tweeters will work/fit in the Titan plus crutchfield will either send you instructions for install or show you what needs to be done to make them fit, as well as awesome technical support for those of you who are not electrically-inclined like myself. the cool thing is the stock tweeters already have a crossover in line so swapping them out is as easy as pie, or at least should be, i'm going to change mine out too, that way when my radio fades to mono the highs won't completely suffer. also the stock tweeters are PATHETIC, can't wait to change them...

ooops, here's the link: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-w5SiO91...sp?g=430&avf=Y

Go here: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....&WebPage_ID=30

They have a TON of tweeters (and everything else). You can find some very high quality tweeters here for very little money. For some of the best check out the Morels or Vifas. These are the same brands and EXACT same tweeters you can find in $1000-$10,000 home audio speakers so they are VERY good. The best part is that you can pick up some top end tweeters for $20-$200/pair!

I would probably recommend a textile dome tweeter as these generally have a very smooth and accurate sound and offer very good sound dispersion. If you like your sound a little brighter (more treble) look at the metal dome tweeters although some of them might be too bright (i.e. to the point of sounding a bit harsh).

Another consideration may be to get a tweeter that can handle a lower crossover point as I do not know what level Nissan has their xover set at, that is if they have one. Otherwise they may just be using a capacitor to filter bass. Also I would not go with a cone tweeter definitely a dome to get the best sound dispersion.

You should be able to get a top end set of tweeters here much less than you would pay at Crutchfield, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Plus these speakers will kill anything you can get from these stores.

Oh also check out www.madisound.com

You guys are great.

Can you help someone who is very dumb regarding this type of thing by also indicating if it is possible to change out the door speakers to better quality ones without having to move away from the stock amp?

If so what ones would you recommend?

I'm planning to replace my tash tweeters and run new wire to them from my amp. I know you can access the speakers by removing the plastic grill on the dash. Does anyone know if I can somehow fish the wire down from there without disassembling the dash?

Take off the a-pillars for easy access. Just unscrew the two bolts that hold the handle in place, then pull the a-pillar off.

Maybe I am not understanding correctly but: I just took the stock tweeter out, and basically droped the wire strait through to the floor. There was lots of room on the drivers side and on the passenger side I used a bent coat hanger. It was the easiest part of my audio install. Hope that helps. On a side note, for my tweet install I cut up the stock tweet and modified it to hold the new one.

That's a creative way to do it.

Oh btw, regarding my above recommendations of using Morel tweeters, check out this review from Car Audio: http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0210cae_morel/

In summary, the reviewer had to say, "So now to my final testing results. Without question, these are the best car audio tweeters I have tested. I will leave the listening tests and installation tips to Eric, but the Supremo lives up to its name and is a perfect 10 across the board. --RR." Another one of their testers also said this, "As it is, they have achieved the highest score that I have assigned so far."

Good stuff. Now for the bad, these retail for $499 for just tweeters. However across Morel's entire line up, they are all of extremely high quality (even their cheapest one).

Try a pair of these out for around $60: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=277-060

Yes you can easily change out the door speakers and the stock sound system will sound considerably better. Not as good as if you upgraded speakers AND changed out the headunit (i.e. the stereo) but yes it would sound much better. You can also do this pretty cheaply.

Recommendations? Hmmm...there are MANY alternatives out there. How much money would you be interested in budgeting for this project, what are your goals...sound quality, and what type of music do you listen to most often?

Great! So you didn't need to take off anything but the tweeter cover, right? I was hoping you could just drop the wire straight through from the top. Thanks for the reply.

I'm not a head banger that likes it too loud but improved audio quality for a reasonable price would be a desired goal. Speakers you can't go wrong with in other words.
