Wireless Headphones- Are they generic?

When I picked up my new 2005 Titan with the DVD Mobile Entertainment System, the wireless headphones and remote that were supposed to come with the unit were gone. The salesman said he had to find the ones that came with it (requiring him to track them down in another state) because they were programmed for that vehicle.
He didn't sound very sure of himself. Seems to me that headphones would be generic to any wireless source. I'm guessing the same for the DVD remote as well. Does anyone know? Thanks for any insights and thanks for this awesome forum.

As long as the headphones are infrared, they should work. I bought a pair of Audiovox phones and they work great. No programming is necessary. I've seen posts about RCA and Sony working as well. Sorry, I can't answer your question about the DVD remote, but I'd be all over the dealer about the missing components.

Tell your dealer to cough up a pair. They will work as homer stated.

What a joke. I can understand (not condone) the sales staff being uneducated about the workings of the system but chances are the service dept. told him that...

Tell them to pull the parts from another vehicle on the lot and prove to you those won't work. Then when they do say "you might want to order the headphones and remote for that vehicle as these are mine now".
