aftermarket thoughts and questions

I really like the Alpine R Components, but I am not sure I want to have to make a MDF baffel or ring so I was thinking of just getting the 5 1/4 from crutchfield. Is there any reason why I should not do this and just build the required baffels and rings so that I could install the 6 3/4 Alpine components?

I am going to install a 26 RMS alpine HU to run the speakers in the doors. And I have an amp and two 10 inch subs to cover the bass. I just figured the 5 1/4 would provide good midrange sound.

One thought I am having is that I might find it hard to mount the four crossovers for the front and rear door components. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't go with anything smaller the 6.5 midrange speakers for better mid range bass balance not mention better power handling. You can secure the crossovers inside the doors or do what I did and install them under the dash (Kingcab) one on each side for ease of access... I have db adjustments on mine I might play with when I get sometime.. If you have a crew cab or just want to do components all the way around I would mount them in the door with 3M industrial Velcro they will never fall.. I would also consider dynamating your doors since you will be in there anyway.. If your going to do a install take your time and do it right.

Velcro?

That is great advice. I will try the velcro out.

So it sounds like I will just have to create the baffels and rings.

Thanks for the help.

I agree with LizardKing. I am starting on my doors now, and going with the Audiobahn ACIS62's for all 4 doors. If you plan to put a little more thunder in the doors, definately dynomat them, you will get a cleaner sound.

I'm in the middle of installing 2 sets of MB Quart RCE216 components. I mounted my crossovers to the inside surface of the door panels, in the hollow area near the arm rest. I used 3M hoop and loop (velcro).

Lizard's advise is very sound (pun intended). 6 1/2's are much better than 5 1/4s especially for the low mounting position in the doors.

Thanks for the advice

I took the advice given and "went big." I got the 6.5 type R component speakers for both the back and front doors. I also decided to go ahead and get a 40x4 amp to run them instead of letting the HU do it.

Now all I need to figure out is how to mount two amps and four crossovers behind the seat and how to build the baffels for the speakers. I am going to search the forum archives, but I might be back later with another post asking for help.

Thanks again everyone.

Sweet, you should be happy with that set up. What kind of amp did you get?

Speaking of MB Quart, has anyone heared these REC269 They should provide a little more bass and drop right in (with RF stereo). Any thoughts?

In all of my past systems I have always been very happy with my alpine head units. I have tried pioneer and sony, but have always found my alpine a step above all the others. So just for the fun of it I figured I would go all alpine for this install. So this is what I have on order from crutchfield.

CDA-9835 HU
MRP-F240 AMP 40WX4
SPR-176A 6.5 component speakers for both the front and back doors

I plan to also get the MRP-350 and either a pair of 10 inch type R subs or a pair of 12 inch type R subs. I am not sure which ones. I haven't had a chance to hear them yet. I usually like the tens because they are more responsive and I rarely listen to anything other than bands like The Mars Volta, Tool, or some other rock music.

Right now I am just going to use my MRP-200 amp with my tens that I bought something like 8 yrs ago. I don't even remember what brand they are. It was something like Cardiac I think. But they have lasted this long and still sound great.

Here is a question for you...Do the speakers you are getting fit in without having to cut the ring in the door to get them mounted. I am having to cut my ring to get my Audiobahn ACIS62's to fit correctly in the door, and build up a mounting ring. You may want to check that out, I knew what I was in for when I got mine, so it was no big deal to me.

I know I am going to have to use MDF to build a ring for the back doors and baffels for the front doors. I have kind of done this before on a past install so I am not to concerned. I was kind of hoping I would not have to cut the openning wider, but I can if I have to.

How is your fabricating going? Any tips?

I didn't have to make the opening wider. I basically cut the inside ring down to about 3/4" to leave something to put the mount on, right now, I am playing with ring sizes to get the best fit. I will let you know how things go, and get pics of it. The Navy thing kind of slows things down LOL.
