Harness on RF 6 Disk changer

Hello all,

I have been reading on Titantalk for months but this is my first post. I hoping someone can help me out.

A couple of months back, I purchased a 2004 Titan LE Kc with the Rockford Fosgate 6 disk changer stereo in it. Over the last few week, I purchased a new stereo sytem to install in it. I did tons of research on here and had a pretty good idea of what I needed to do. Here is what I purchased: New alpine V-Drive xm ready stereo, alpine xm tuner, Nissan Wire Harness receiver from crutchfield(2 pcs.), A Scosche OEM Adapter for the titan(also crutchfield, and oddly enough...it came with the doubledin bezel for 39.99??????), and a new XM mini antenna.

I installed the antenna and that went fine. I removed the bezel cover of the rockford fosgate unit and removed all the screws holding the stereo face and all switches, that went fine. I removed the stereo unit itself and that went fine. Ok, so heres the question. There is 5 plugs that go into the rear of the RF system. Crutchfield has sent me only 2 harnesses. A big one and a small one. Can someone tell me what all 5 harnesses are that plug into the original stereo. I have 2 harnesses that fit and I assume that otheres might be for the steering wheel control and the speed sensitive volume.

I know that I will not be able to use some of this stuff and that is fine. However, which of these harnesses goes to the amp. My alpine is a V-drive system with 60 watts per channel and I dont want to plug into the wrong harness. If anyone can help, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

The two connectors you received are the only two you need. The three remaining connectors will not be used with the new HU. The two connectors you will be using route the audio output (left/right and front/rear) of the HU to the amp. Obviously, you do not want to feed the signal from the new HU through the existing amp (it will overload and it's a miserable amp anyway).
The amp is located near the firewall just above the brake/gas pedal. It has two connectors plugged into it. One is white and goes to the subwoofer under the front seat, the other is blue and contains connections for audio from the HU and to all the speakers. It is on this connector where you need to place jumpers in order to feed the signal from the new HU to the front and rear speakers.
I made jumpers by using short lengths of speaker wire (about three inches long) and crimping pins to the ends of the wire. Get pins that will just fit into the sockets on the plug removed from the amp. Put the jumpers in place, test to verify that sound is coming from the appropriate speakers, then tape the jumpers in place. Tuck the connector with jumpers into the space around the amp and you are good to go.

An alternative to using the jumpers is to run new speaker wire to all the speakers (front and rear doors). Using this method do not connect the audio out of the new HU (left/right and front/rear) to the wiring adapter that plugs into the dash harness. Instead connect the outputs directly to the new wiring that has been installed for the speakers.

If you want to use the jumper method, I have attached a diagram that indicates the pinouts of the blue amp connector and the necessary jumpers to make the front and rear speakers work. There is one error in the diagram - the jumper that reads 7 - 27 should be 7 - 28/

Can the OEM wiring handle the 28 RMS/ 60 Peak that the V-Drive HU will push? I also have a Alpine V-Drive HU. I never even considered using the current wiring. I doubt the wires will push more than 20W regardless of what the RF system states it pushes.

eakes, your the man. Thanks for all that...got everything hooked up and working but i will have to wait till tomorrow night to do the bypass of the amp. I can hear it on the first indent on the volume, there is noise that shouldnt be there. I assume that is the amp being over driven. Just a note, the dash panel that came with my install kit has the emergency blinker switch on the left side. I cant put the panel on without the switch popping out. So thats a loser. I did already order another panel from a nissan dealer in texas so im sure that will work better. Again...thanks so much for the help.

BenKRiley, the quick answer to your question is yes. Alpine does say to run a 10 gage wire from the battery which I am not going to do. The reason is that in the radio setup, the onboard amp can be disabled. I am going to have amps put in soon so I dont need to use the onboard amp. It is using oem wiring right now and working fine as it was in my 4Runner, but if you are going to use the onboard amp, run the wire to the battery.

I will let you guys know how it does with the amp bypass.

Bazel

I had the same problem with the bazel and the hazard light. The double din OEM bazel doesn't have a wide enough openning to facilitate and after market HU though. So I cut an opening in the plastic piece behind the bazel for the hazard light to fit into. Ended up losing two of the clips in the process and have to order those before I finish.

Tileteam,
You have any pics of your new head unit and install? I'd appreciate if you post some to get some ideas as I am at the sound system MOD stage. Thanks
PEACE

I will have photos in a day or 2. I just recieved the new bezel from the nissan dealer in Texas. Good thing it came with its own clips because i lost 3 of them. Im not sure the Scosche install kit is going to work out. It seems to put the stereo a little further back then i want it. I may order the Metra kit to see if it is better. I will let you know how it works out.
