Window tint opinions?

What do you consider to be the top 3 best windown tinting brands? I am about to get my windows tinted and I am curious if there are any particularly good brands, because I know there are a lot of really crappy ones that seem to fold every couple of years and start up as a different company with the same crappy stuff. Thanks for the considerations...

just got mine done today. Seems most that are the metalized (?) are better than the dyed ones. won't ever purple. I got madico. it comes with a lifetime guarantee and so far llokks really good. went with 35% (yes it's illegal here in IL but the the slightly lighter tint doesn't make it that noticeable.

I have LLumar and have been very pleased. It also came with a lifetime waranty. From what I've been told, it won't ever fade like some brands will do over time.

one thing that will make pretty much any tint (even the llumar like i have)discolor or fade quickly would be to use something like windex w/ ammonia D. i was told by the guy who put mine on, to stay away from anything w/ ammonia D in it.

I have used Llumar on my last 3 vehicles. never had any problems with discoloring or fading. Like Goathead said, stay away from anything with ammonia in it.

my tint guy said you would have to use about a gallon a day to fade the madico tint or ant metalized titnt for that matter. Mine is gurantteed from fade, scratching, purpleing for life, even if i use windex everyday!!!!!

although he doesn't recoomend using ammonia d, he said the ocaasional use will do nothing to mine.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone had any experience with Johnson's tint? The shop I am considering uses it. Thanks

I consider the best tint...

Yes WazzuCoug, Johnson Window Film is excellent and I consider the best tint I've ever had. Had it applied by a local vinyl decal/graphics shop near me, I went to school with the guy who owns it. He applied it himself, and gave me a couple of pointers. It's a metallic based film (as is our factory tint on the truck). Try not to roll down your windows for about a week after it is applied, give it time to adhere to the window, sunny days are great. I got mine done mid-December and I'm in Jersey and it was mostly cloudy around that time so I didn’t roll them down a little longer than he suggested but that’s just me. A bubble here or there is totally natural, DON’T touch it, leave it alone and 99.9% of the time its goes away. If you pick at it or try to squeegee it out yourself you can create a crease. I had one bubble appear and took his word left it alone and it disappeared. Stay away from any glass cleaner with ammonia-D in it, he said that’s what he uses to remove window tint. He said using a damp cloth with soap and water would work for cleaning them but for now he gave me something like a "miracle cloth" he had at the shop. Just wipe and it’s clean. End result = excellent window tint from a man I trust and grew up with, lifetime guarantee. Buddy's of mine had it done at other tinting shops and two weeks later a nightmare, bubbles all over the place and peeling. Should've listened to me.Till next time... Brian

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I have an appointment tomorrow morning for my window tinting. It looks like I will be going with Johnsons since that is what they have at the shop. Right now it is really crappy weather here in sacramento- mosly rain. Brian mentioned I should not open my windows for about a week. Anyone else have tips for bad weather tint installs?

Anyone go limo tint on the rear 3 windows?

I posted this earlier on another tint thread and others have the same experience. Rather quickly some Titans will develop VERY thin scratches on the inside of the window through the tint. I had read about it on TT before I got mine done, and sure enough, about a month later I noticed them on my truck.

There must be something that the window comes in contact with in the door, the rubber seal is clean all along the window as far as I can tell. I don't know enough about tint products to know if others will withstand it better, but I know I'm not the only one that has the scratches. They are so minor I'm not going to do anything about them, it's possible I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read about it on here.

good luck

could the scratches possibly come from undoing the seatbelt alittle too fast and having it hit the window? My 1996 Land Rover had this problem. (along with many others)

well I just had my windows tinted and my tint guy warne dme the front windows will scratch because of the rubber seal they used it is harder than the norm he named off a few other cars with this problem so I am going to see if I can add a little more felt or something of the kind to the rubber

no, the scratches that i have and im sure others have are too uniform to be from a seatbelt. however, i have had the seatbelt hit the glass before almost to the point of breaking and wow, scared the sh!t outta me.
