Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but to make use of the factory headunit display and steering wheel controls for your satellite receiver, you must use the Nissan unit. You can install an after market satellite receiver onto the sytem pretty easily buy running the signal through the aux input for the factory headunit. With this type of install you can still control the volume using the steering wheel controls. However, to change stations or view music info you'll have to use the aftermarket receiver unit (not the factory unit, it will show AUX on the screen).

Dave, the issue is the Nissan N-Bus pre-wire plug. It's proprietary and won't work with any aftermarket units like the stock Clarion unit. I'll attach a pic of the N-Bus so you can see what it looks like under the dash. The stock port is round.

I suppose you could if you had the schematics for both the truck and the tuner and knew what each wire did. I've searched for an adapter, even emailed companies who make them, and have been told that they have no plans on making one for a Nissan application.

Dave, I have no idea, but I'd guess the only difference in the Clarion tuner from Nissan and the stock Clarion tuner you can buy on Ebay for $25 is the N-bus Plug itself. I went so far as to buy a tuner on Ebay and then try to find an adapter. When that lead to a dead end, I just bought the Nissan tuner and still have the stock one for another day.

this whole thing makes me sick....i would get XM but i can't afford the $400 bucks nissan is charging and then more money to install it. i guess i could do the install, but i've never worked with stereo systems before.
Critter, Grubbs has kits for about $275. You can get the antenna for and splitter for about $50 at BestBuy. Install is plugging leads into the tuner box and mounting the antenna, very easy. There are plenty of directions with photos if you need some reassurance. You'll really enjoy it.

Has anyone attempted to splice a non-OEM Sirius or XM receiver into the N-Bus connector? The schematics for the connector are in the service manual. I am wondering if there is some special firmware or if the only obstacle is the connector itself, which could be circumvented by a simple splice job.
If so, it would make things alot cheaper. The Nissan XM receiver I bought is made by Clarion. Here is a Clarion Sirius receiver with a lifetime subscription on Ebay:
Ive been pretty close with the service manager at my local dealership.. Im going to pick up my Titan today. I will ask him about this issue and keep you posted.
He has been 100% honest and helpful with alot of recomendations on mods and the effect it may have on my truck, + & -.. I wanna see what he says about this thread
OK, I spoke to a mechanic yesterday and he told me the only way to use sat. radio using the buttons on the radio is to buy the one from Nissan. It is a special reciever that they mount under the dash and connect to the radio. He said something about it being coded so I dont think you could splice any wires on the radio.
The only option is to buy one at a store and have a seperate tuner to change the channels. The problem with this and I'm not sure if anyone has had this problem is that you have to put your radio on a certain channel and you may have static because of that.
I wonder if Nissan will look at the low sales on this and reduce the price. Gotta hope.
I called Good Guys yesterday and they told me that only Nissan's receiver will work with the stock head unit. Diffrent plugs in the back..... Well for what Nissan want's for their receiver and install you can go with an after market head unit and Sat rec plus a CD changer for about the same price.

100% true, and the selling price on the reciever at Nissan is like $320 and the attenna another $80. Of course that is at the "consumer price" I am going to find out the "employee price" is to see what the diffrence is.
