amp mounting

Has anyone mounted to the underside of their back seats? How does it work out? I figure that would be easier than mounting behind back seats.

i wouldn't if i were you. it is strongly recomended that you not do this by the manufacturer. They don't dissipate heat as well that way. Mountinh them vertically, like behind the seat gives it the best performance. less heat=more power.

Your right on the money. Behind the back seats is the best place. But if you definetly want to put it under the seat, pick-up a cross-flow fan on Sounddomain.com and the amp should stay happy. But there will be more wires to deal with.

Good luck!

i seriously dont see how behind a seat is much better than below the seats.

i put mine under my passenger front seat, mounted my amp and cap to a peice of carpet-covered mdf. works / looks great.

I have to agree. I talked w/ some stereo install guys about mounting them like that and if they would get warmer, and the didnt think they would. I was thinking they would get more air being under the seat like that instead of on the back wall. But, who knows... When it comes to stuff like that, I dont know much...

well heat moves upwards so mounting on the back wall leaves area for the heat to escape mounting to the underside of the seat would mainly mean mounting your amp upside down which would cause the heat to travel back uo through the amp NOT GOOD. Mounting it under a seat shouldnt be that big of deal as long as you leave plenty of clearance for the top of the amp but a fan wouldnt be a bad idea

The concept of vertical mounting of a passively cooled device is that as air is heated it will move upwardly along (or across) the cooling fins, even in the absence of external air flow such as an open window, A/C vent, or fan, i.e. convection.

Ideally, the amp should be mounted so that the fins extend vertically. One of my amps was too big, so I mounted it on the back wall with the fins extending horizontally, with no apparent ill effects.
