I have two 10's firing up and the bass is 3x more impressive when sitting in the back seats. It will rattle fillings out of your head. I decided to fire them up because I didn't want something to roll under the box and a sub get destroyed. I could have made the box with a lip around it on the bottom, but it was to late when I thought of that. The biggest vibration problem I have is the overhead consoles. I have to keep stuff packed in them to stop the vibration. I haven't tried firing the subs down, so someone else will have to let you know how it sounds.

a pressure plate is a solid piece that will reflect sound waves. I use a 1/4" thick piece of lexan or acrylic when I make mine. The seats will work a little, but not nearly as well, as the soft cushion will absorb sound instead of reflect it.
here's an example of a pressure plate as I did it in my volvo :
There's about 1.25" of gap between the sub and the plate to allow for air movement and full excursion of the sub w/o touching the plate. I ran the system for about a month w/o the plate, so I know it was broken in before hand. There is a definitely deepening of the bass and an increase in volume and quality with the plate. I did it at the recommendation of some sound guru's, and I will never build another system without it, now.
Besides the sound advanatages, it makes an excellent protection device. I no longer worry about throwing things in my trunk... And the plate is very very scratched to prove it's worth for that!

thats cool, I have never heard or seen that but hey Ill try it I guess if the poll comes out firing up
I have alwasy heard firing is the best for the same reasons you mention, but lizard stated that he tried it and his subs bottomed out for some reason, and then told me that the sub needed a xmax of over 18mm to be suitable for downfiring (since I know many subs where xmax is low, but they sound best downfiring)
so basically I know ever car is different, and started to wonder if maybe the titan had some special acoustics or something
thats why I posted this thread to get a feel for what other had been doing "up" or "down"

When we made a box for the Diamond subs I used to have it sounded like crap. When we rotated the box facing up what a difference.. Yes, there are subs that can be fired down and sound good. XMAX has something to do with this according to a article I read from a audio engineer.. Pressure plates are a good easy fix to get decent bass but to me I don't like the looks of the plate on there.. Looks to homemade for me!!! Facing the subs rear towards the back wall will also sound really good. With a truck your never going to get the same bass response you will in say a SUV or a Hatchback. This is one reason I'm thinking very seriously about the new Pathy after test driving one, for a SUV with a V6 whoa does it have power.

you mean you woudl acually buy another nissan Im done with them--lol
cmon 06 srt10,and that pay raise I need to afford 50k and bad ball joints
Too funny!!! The build quality on the Pathy is far superior to the Titan in all aspects... I need more room for audio equipment.. I want to run 2 12 ti series Eclipse or one 15inch pro Eclipse and would love to mount amps on display and a huge 35farad cap as well.. I would take out the third row seats and mount everything with subs facing rear and amps on racks...oh yeah....

you should join elite car audio with all the other car audio fanatics (me inlcuded)--lol
I weigh the SUV vs the truck everyday since we driv eit the most and packing baby gear in the bed with no tonneau sucks
but having the ability to haul wood dirt, etc has been priceless with our first new home
I figure on buying a used pickup for hauling.. I think a SUV would be more practical for me right now.. I don't use my pickup to haul anything other then my golf clubs or Nitro R/C truck. I love my Titan but the room of the Pathy would be more my speed.. I haven't completely made my mind up on what SUV, everytime I compare I keep coming back to the Pathy or 4runner. I wish I could afford the BMW X5 oh yeah. One thing for sure it won't be a SUV made by Dodge, Ford or Chevy..

I like the new pathy, but it's the same price as a titan!!! If I'm gonna lay down that kind of dough then I'll get the Titan and have a bigger vehicle with more comfort and a ****load more power. If you need the enclosed cargo, then get a tonneau or camper shell.

how can you tell the build quality is better on the pathfinder--the armada is about as bad as the titan from what i saw--did they upgrade the pathfinder factories??
