Depth available under rear seats of Crew Cab

I am a soon-to-be owner of a Titan and was wondering if I could get a answer to a question. How much depth is available under the rear seat of a 05 Crew Cab? I am checking to see if my 12' sub will fit under the seat.

Planning.....

theres not much room there. with a good box made p of 3/4 inch mdf you are really limited to a sub witha depth of only about 6 inches of mounting depth. which is not much. thats why for the first time ever i went with 10's. you can get a better sub in a smaller package then a 12 to fit the truck.

what is the clearance under the seats then? 7.5"?

I really don't want to part with my 12" MASS (best sub I have ever owned)...its' mounting depth is 6.5"

If there is less than 12" depth to work with, which sounds like the case, I might build a center console box....

I'm not saying it cant be done. Anything can be done. But the box under the seats will not be real big. So, not much airspace. A 10 with the right airspace will sound better and hit harder then a nicer 12 with not enough airspace. Personally, I decided to go with 2 higher power 10s that matched the airspace. But a guy at work here has 2 12's in a standard chevy extended cab box. I think it sounds crappy, he doesnt. So its really your decision. Remember tho - you need about an ince or so, if not more of clearance between the sub and seat bottom or floor. that way at peak excursion the sub wont be hitting anything. so iven if you measured, say 8 inches at a certian point you cant use all 8 inches. Know what i mean?

yeah, loud and clear.

I figured that the room was limited, but I was still hopful that I could get it to work. All I need is 1 cf, and around 11" depth (includes a grille and offset piece of mdf due to excursion) Guess the best thing to do is wait till I get the truck and see what I want to do. Just trying to figure out if I have to get rid of my sub....don't want to. No subs available really appeal to me as much as my MASS.

you could build a custom box and get one cf of air for one 12. it would probably still take up all the room under both seats. no way it can be done on only one side of the tranny hump.

but...........there is option b. i dont know much about porting a sealed box. that may help you cram that sub into a space less then one cf. i dont know. i've been thinking about porting my sealed box but i have no idea how.

A ported box generally requires more air volume than a sealed box, so porting a sealed box that is not large enough will make things worse.

Hey I have 12" Kicker XPL subs. They are a model from 1999 or 2000 but they still sound great. The box I used was from my 1997 GMC. It was a regular cab truck box that we cut the middle out of it and put new caps on it and some new carpet.

What are the dimensions of the box? How much clearance is there in the front/rear of the seat to the floor? I am just looking for some number to work with. Numbers....

I am not sure how you want the dimensions but I'll try. Each box is 22" wide by 14" deep, This is the side on the floor of the cab. The side facing out towards the front of the truck is 22" by 8.5". The side towards the back of the cab is 22" by 4.5".
The side facing up with the sub mounted to it is 22" by 15". The end caps are 15" by 14" by 8.5" by 4.5" If that makes any sense? I have a cew cab and the seats latch down and the box doesn't stick out much in the front or the sides, maybe 1/2 inch at the most.

too save you some time

the MAX depth firing down is 6" (around 0.7 cu ft with wood, more if you glass)

the MAX firing up is 5.5" (around 0.65 icu ft with wood, more if you glass)

assuming 3/4" mdf--use 1/2" baltic birch you get more volume

the only 12" qaulity subs that I have found that fit depth wise and volume

are the arc audio 12" arc series

http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/subwoofers.htm

they can go in as small as 0.65 cu ft with a littel more than the rated rms power

or the image dyanmics IDQ12 V2

http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/webs...idq12d4v2.html

happy hunting

there are tons of tens that will work

As I have stated in other threads I am a future owner and during my most resent Titan test drive I took a close look at the rear half of the truck. In the 2005's, there is not enough room to mount anything behind the rear seats due to the new rear power window.

So I have decided....at least to start out....that I am going to keep the same equipment that I have. I am going to install my 40 farad CAP, Old school RF400a4, and RF500a2 under the rear passenger side seat in a custom box and put my current 1cf box with my beloved Audiomobile 12" and just fold up the rear driver's side seat. So when I need the extra passanger room I can just throw the sub in the bed and be on my way. Or it could just go on the seat between the backseat passengers...if they can handle it.

New stuff that I am getting would be
1. all new KnuKocncepts wiring and fuses
2. Streetwires Zeronoise 3 RCAs
3. Front speakers: either Biamp a set of Polk Momos 6.5s or get 2ohm Image Dynamics Chamelons 7s
4. Rear speakers: most likely some type of rear fill....having a hard time deciding.
