I will give you my 2cents
I think modulation is a lower quality and you can hear a large diiference between
XM tuner and a modulation kit. I pulled my factory out and put in a Alpine 7893 and it looked strange , becasue of that large Gray console area that had a black
head unit in it. I switched back to the factory RF 6 changer and bought the Nissan XM tuner and I am happy. I like the clean stock , clear sounding XM.

Thinking about adding an XM receiver

Sorry for another satellite radio post, but I searched and didn't find answers.

I have the midgrade stereo, 6 CD changer, not RF. I'm trying to decide between adding the factory satellite receiver, or an aftermarket receiver and plugging it into the AUX port. It seems like the factory stereo controls and display kind of limit some of the functions of the satellite radio, but it's a cleaner install. I'm looking for other pros/cons for either option. Opinions please.

Or I could wait until the XM2go type units come down in price and up in quality. Then I could use that and plug it into any stereo (home, car, truck, boat) that has extra inputs? Is that correct?

Thanks.

go with a Roady2 - I cannot give this little receive enough praise. Easy to install, great sound. Hooks up straight through the AUX port with an aftermarket cord purchased at Radio Shack. Need to look into though possibly hard wiring into the back of the stereo HU but haven't gotten around to that yet. Anyway, only around $129 which is pretty good for this quality of unit.

Sirius

I have an older Sirius in my Titan but I just bought a Sportster for my wifes Altima.Quick setup I even put the antenna on the dash up by the defroster
and it picks up great.

The F M modulator has a lot of options. My old one was limited to just the 88.1-88.9 She set hers on 87.9 and haas no bleed through of ghost channels. Just my input. 149.00 at Best Buy car kit included

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm not sure how atlasot's post appeared before my original post. Those with the factory tuner, can you have XM station presets or do you have to scroll through all the channels to get to the one you want? What does the stock display show when using satellite?

johnnyk, there are threads on here that describe how to install the module you are thinking about. It seems pretty easy to do on your own so the cost is just in the parts. Do a search for "knee plate" and you will see the threads.

I'd still like some responses from those with the factory XM on the user-friendlyness of the stock controls with the sat radio. Thanks.

I used the "aux" port, but the volume wasn't there at all. I went out and got a Roady2 with the RF transmitter included and couldn't be happier. I got my set up at Walmart for $96 and then got a remote online delivered for $20. HTH's.
