Cool Up Grading Factory Radio

I have the base model cd/radio for the Titan SE. I want to upgrade to a Alpine. I read that I may need a Scosche OEM Adapter. Is this true for my system. I dont have any extra options on my truck, its as base as u can get. Has anyone had problems with their truck since upgrading their radios.

Scosche NN03B "Nissan 1995 & Up"

I believe that you connect the wires from the Scosche connectors/pigtails to the pigtail/connector that comes with your Alpine, and then you plug the Scosche connectors into the factory harness connectors. If you buy your Alpine from crutchfield they will give you the pigtail/connector.

Here is a link to crutchfield's connector/pigtail (with explanation):

The problem with upgrading only the radio is that you still have the factory speakers & no sub(s).

I think some people experienced alternator whine and had to upgrade their grounds. If you search, you can find a thread by lizardking describing a 0 gauge upgrade to the factory battery-chassis-block ground.

Save yourself some money and buy the dash kit on ebay $14 plus the $8 for shipping. You can also get the wiring harness there too. I have installed multiple stereo's in these trucks and trust me these kits look the best and have the best cost.

As for the alternator wine? That is yet to be heard by me.

If you are ONLY changing out the radio to an Alpine then the Scosche adapter is the way to go for wiring. The dash kit is also a good idea. I installed an Alpine IVA-D901 in my Titan and used both. If you are upgrading the entire system, adding amps and aftermarket speakers, then you will only use about 2-3 of the stock wires from the harness and it would be just as easy to bypass the connector on the truck side and splice into those wires straight from your stereo. The Scoshe connector allows you to avoid changing any of the factory wiring.

As for alternator whine, I have none. I grounded the stereo to a nearby point on the chasis. I grounded all my amps at the same locatio in the rear of the cab (via a distribution block) and grounded my capacitor in a different location. I also upgraded the negative battery and alternator ground wires to 0 gauge.
