XM Radio

I have an Phillips Sky-Fi XM pluga and play

that was, with the car kit, adhesively attached to the dash by my right knee. It has since fallen off because whatever plastic insert it was on (probably where the 2WD/4WD knob would go) didn't allow the sticky pad to stick to 100% of the surface because of it's raised egde. It was only adhering on 4 very small points. Well eventually it fell off under it's own weight and has since rode next to me in the hole behind the shifter and cup holders.

Does anyone else have the same XM system, and how do you have it arrainged in your cab? I'm looking for ideas so that I can see the damn thing without
1 - Screwing up the interior with adhesive crap.
2 - Somewhat up front so I don't have to take my eyes off the road wuite so much.
3 - A solution to the wire rat's nest problem. I have enough of that at home behind the computer, I don't want it in my baby.

Any suggestions?

A local shop by me offers a mount that uses 1 cup holder. It then has a arm about 12" long that you can mount your xm too. It's a flexable arm so you can put it where ever. Looked pretty cool.
They had some other stuff too, but I wasn't listing.

Vette,

That sounds like a great idea. Now I'm torn between this solution (non-permanent, no drilling or mechanical prowess) and something like I found during the forum search where it's mounted on the panel in front of the first sunglasses.

Exactly my problem, which is why I really should find a workable solution before I kill myself or someone else.

I have the xm commander. I put it in the empty space in front of the sunglass holder too. Looks great. It is the smallest ive seen and mounts flush.

I think dctitan is on to something, check crutchfield. They might have some sort of brackets.
Before I switched my stereo around, I had the roady2 with vent clips. Mounted onto the vent right beside the keys. Nice and clean, and didn't fall off, but still removable. Hid all the wires in the dash crack.
Maybe you need to upgrade to the roady2

The size was my main objection to the Delphi radio and one of the reasons I bought the XM Commander. For your dilemma, I would suggest mounting it using double-sided tape in the area in front of the shifter between the 12V sources on the dash. In this position the tape does not have to carry the weight of the unit, it only serves to hold it in place. The wiring can be tucked beneath the dash/shifter covers.
An alternate location would be in the tray on the dash about the radio. Remove the 'rubber' mat that is presently there, use the mat as a template to cut a piece of 1/4 inch thick MDF board to fit the area. Attach the Delphi unit to the board and attach the board to the dash using double-sided tape. The board could be painted or covered with felt to "pretty" it up.

I like your seconf idea. I just ordered a vehicle specific mount for the skyfi/titan, so we'll see how that goes. If it doesn't live up to expectations I think I'll be going with the second idea. I like the idea of mounting the skyfi up front and within easy glance of the road, but I'm very skeptical about cutting into the truck itself mostly because anytime I drill a hole in anything it somehow becomes a bigger hole and eventually becomes the derelict orifice next to a correct one (you should see the hack job I did on a guitar pickguard once).

Here is another option...a small vice...you can attach your car kit and run the wires behind the dash.
