Audio Install...w/Pics

Just started on my audio install. So far I have only matted the front doors. I'm still deciding on some of the components, but one of the pics attached will show a sneak peek of what I will put in the doors.

The component set is the 7" Focal Utopias.

just a word of caution

before you sela the door up, Id highly recommedn you add two layers on the inside of the metal also or our going to lose a lot of midbass, and clarity as the outer sheet metal is very thin --so without the mat on the inside metal a ton of sound goes out to the street

and before you install the utopias mids you might wantt to try out apair of the k2p mids, they are a nicer livelier mids

the utopias are really old (redeisgned as the berrylium for 05) whereas the k2p was redesigned last year (llok for the silver pahce plug and clear passives
and both sets have the same tweet

and be careful where you aim that tweet they are a little bright
good luck

Thanks for the tips, but there's already multiple layers inside I am very familiar with the Focal line (I have used raw Focal drivers for 20 years). I've had this set for 3 years now and have never installed them. Since it fits in the Titan I'm finally gonna use them. I do not plan on purchasing another set because these speakers drain the wallet fast!

Smoke,
Have you played around with tweeter positioning in the Titan? How does it image with the tweets in the dash?

Tweets in the dash are not bad but however they need to be at ear level in the A pillars. Focal makes good speakers thats a real good choice. Smoketitan is right when I had my Titan I dynamatted the piss out of my truck and it really made a huge difference.. I plan on doing the same thing with my 4runner but will be using Cascade VB-1S PRO aerosol spray for the doors with multi layer coats then using dynamat extreme. I will do the entire 4runner like I did on the Titan.

DO NOT USE THAT STUFF IN YOUR TRUCK!!!!!!!

I used 4 cans without knowing about it,and it stunk my whol car up, I had to add 6 layers of the vb-1x to cover it up

the owner of the company told me that it was designed for external use,a nd or for internal use when a car will sit out for long spans of time
if you have bought it return it

IM telling you thins from experience and 7 or so nasty emails and phone calls to cascadde.

they sent me a gallon of the vb-1x (which is great stuff by the way if you can wiat for the dying time between layers --I still orefer mat thouhg after trying both)

seriously man dont mess up your new 35k truck like I Did using that crap

Whoa!! no doubt.. Is it the fact that it smells and takes so long to cure? I heard the stuff I bought was supposed to be new and improved.. I thought about the Dynamat brand spray but you can't have it shipped in the winter and I heard horrific things about it....

as far as the tweets go

1) in the dash it reallover powers the midrangfe so I needed to use time alingment to delay the tweets so it didnt overpower the midrange and crossing them lower also helpo (arounf 2500-3200hz)

I run active by the way

2) if you are using the passives I think the best best is in the apillars or the kicks

Im going to glass in some kicks/and the a-pillars this weekend to see how it works down low aimed or on the a pillars at my ears

but from what I found is that the mids are soo low in the door its ahrd to bring them together (mids/tweets) with the tweets so high unles you delay the tweets using time alignment

dude do not take the chance take my word for it they told mne the same thing when I bought over 12 cans

it cure fast (turns black) it the material they use to make it lesss viscuous is toluene (they sure didnt tell me that when I was buying it)

if you have ever had chemistry---toluene is a very emissive hydorcarbon--very nasty stuff--not somthing you would wnat in yoru car

so yeah they may have changed it after I blasted them, and theraatened a lawsuit ( im wiating till summer time to see if any remnat smell returns)

but I woudlnt take the chance

teh vb-1x is far superior a product, 1) its water base 2) you cna use a paint brish 3) its less messy the spray knobs on those cans SUCK it gota ll over my rear seatbelts ---I have to buy new one) 4) it wipes up fast if it gets somewhere you dont wnat it to 5) it goes on pretty easy and when it dries it runs blue so you have a visual marker of when it is fully cured

please amn retun that crap immediately do not mess up your new vehicls as the owner SUCKS she takes no resposibility for her stuff. the only reaosn I go any helpo was because one of her tech smeeld and was honest enough to admit that the batches were bad

but get this they she even lied towhere I bought them from trying to get themt o not issue me a full refund for the cans

IM not completly bitter as I wqoudl highly recommend the VB-1x (although raammat new butyl mat is the nicest I have seen so far since brown bread got so expensive)

just trying to save you the hearthache I wen through when my friggin 2 months old car smelled like my chemsitry lab I couldnt even drive it for like a week

Cool...thanks for the heads up! I usually place the tweet as close as possible to the mid to keep the imaging stable. I'll play around with it. How about the subs? Which way do you guys fire them, up, down, or straight? I'll be using 8s so I think it can fire them forward. Where in Cali are you Smoke?

Holy smokes!!! They claim it to be a solvent based now.. I will spray some on a board to test it out and see if it's improved.. If not back it goe's and I will call them up to complain as well.. On there site the claim its the same stuff you mentioned thats good but in a can...It's always something..

Mids:
Smoke is right the mids are tuff to get right.. Being way down low like they are they don't sound right..
