I have a Sirius Sportster installed on the dash with the little antenna on the dash. This is the second one I have had installed. My problem is the signal keeps cutting out. Not only when under trees, but going down the middle of a clear road. Any one else having this problem. Keeps getting the aquiring signal sign on the unit. On the ride home from my workplace (20 miles) it will cut out at least 7 times. I live in Southeast Texas where the air is thick, but this is ridiculous.
Mike
My Sportster was doing that and I found that the antenna connection was kind of flaky. It would look like it was plugged in all the way, but it was just slightly out. After jiggling it around a bit, I got it to work. Not the greatest setup. Now, I have a Pioneer HU and the Pioneer Sirius Tuner. Sounds better than the Sporster, but you do give up the multi-line display.
Check your antenna connection. Also, my antenna did not work very well inside the truck, but once I mounted it on the roof... no dropouts.
Good luck,
Dave

You should install the antenna on the roof, not on the dash. The only time the signal will go out in my truck is when I pull into my garage. No obstructions should be present between the antenna and the sirius network My directtv goes out more than my sirius install.

My XM never cuts out with the attenna on the dash in the right front corner. I plan to buy Sirius today actually to add it also to my radio stations!
I just installed the factory Nissan Sirius Tuner and Glass Mounted attenna. Integrating satellite into the Rockford Fossgate system is the way to go. The output is far better than any other satellite solution. I had a Roady XT prior using the Aux or FM Modulator and it was crap.
As far as the attenna goes, I am suprised to loose the signal, specially when its so big.
go to www.siriusbackstage.com and you will find the sportster has a serious dropout problem. unfortunatly it appears to be a sportster issue, i had one for 6 months and dropped out a least 1 once a week for sometimes 5 -10 mintes, turning on and off did nothing, changing to new anteena did nothing. I fianlly read of all the complaints and dumped it for the starmate replay and NEVER had another dropout. I just recently swapped the replay out for the oem sirius tuner to clean up the clutter on the dash (sirius and gps mounted to dash before) I still never get any drops.
My opinion, once the sportster developes the dropout, there is nothing you can do besides get a new unit. period. as many have tried to complain directly to directed (the manufacturer) with no luck. you may be able to return it to where you bought it if it is new enough but most likely the only option is a new unit.

I have an '05 4x4 LE CC with factory Sirius. It continues to lose signal while in open sky. Dealer installed new antenna (triangular plastic inside windshield near rearview mirror) once.
Going back to dealer next week for same problem.
No TSB or recall on this yet.
I just installed the Starmate Replay in my sunglass flip down. I mounted the antenna in the center on top right above my mirror. I rolled the wire into the rubber surround for windshield then ran it down the drivers side through the crack and into the door jam. Behind the oh crap handle and into the inside of the windshield surround. Then took it back up and pulled it through the hole I drilled in the overhead center console.
The only time I've cutout was under bridges while sitting there but it comes back and cuts out. It doesn't just stay out. In the garage of course and sometimes under gas station awnings over pumps. No problems with it here after a few weeks and it rocks. Octane, Hard Attack, Faction...can you say Bring It!!!
I had the same problem and traced it down to a connection. The connection clip was a little bent, so I just bent it back into place and never have the problem any more. It was the clip from the main box (computer or what ever it is called). Try checking your connections. I also don't know about the mounting of your antenna, but mine is mounted on top of my truck.

My truck came with the Sirius package and had the antenna mounted off the glass on the rear and it still cut out when i needed it. I dunno what caused it so i never subscribed when the trial ran out.
I recently dumped my XM OEM tuner for a Sirius OEM. At the time, Grubb's Infinity was having a fire sale at $199.99. That isn't bad compared to the $350.00 or so they used to be.

i wouldn't call it a fire sale....the $199 is for the new version receiver, the $350 was the price of the old version. same but differant

Picked my truck up from dealer (Courtesy Nissan, Altoona, PA) Friday 3/3. I compained of losing Sirius signal on a regular basis. They replaced antenna last visit and this time "could not duplicate" problem was documented on work oerder.
Basically, did nothing to repair or fix reception.
They did replace all door handles for TSB on freezing latches.
