Question Raising the rear seats?

I have come across a couple of people on the board that have raised their rear seats for audio installations and I am curious if anyone knows how they did it? I have asked the few people who I know have done it, and have yet to get much detail/pictures. I assume just spacers are involved? Anybody out there done it that can help shed some light? What was used as spacers, how are the top mounts changed(if they are), and how is the ride comfort? I appreciate any help on the topic.

lizardking did this by using three metal rings, and some spacers from homedepot

pm him for more details

i you have rear passnegers Id highly vote against it as if you ever get into a accident I doubt that the rings can support that much force

I'd be interested to see how this was done as well. I can't visualize it all, because not all the brackets lie on the same horizontal plane, so I don't see how simple spacers would work. Just raising the seats a 1/4" could make a big difference.

Maybe Greg from PRG can make some nice spacers for them too. he's done the suspension already.

I remember when I used to own my F150 there was a company that sold brackets to lift them up to 6 inches if I remember correct.

All, I used longer grade 8 bolts (much stonger then Nissan's crap) then used two nuts and two washers as spacers.. It worked great and raised the seat about 1.5inches the down side is that the brace facing the front of the truck the one that fastens to the hump cannot be fastened because raising the seat changes the alignment. Not being able to use this brace still allows for 8 fastening points. The box I had hide the fact brace was not fastened. However you could fasten this brace you would just need to drill a hole in cab and re-attach. Hope this sheds some light!

Lizard, how much did that 1.5" affect the quality of the rear passenger comfort? Did you have a KC? Did the raising of the seats affect the mounting at the top(ex could you still pull the little string latch to release the top of the seats, or was mod work neccessary)? Thanks,

I was still able to pull the strap to release the back.. If you look at the latch you have room to play before binding up. I had the King Cab and I never had passengers back there after raising the seats..

Not sure how to take this, you didnt want to put people back there or you never had the need to put them back there?

Also, what happened to the box? If u still have it I would maybe want to take it off your hands. If u dont still have it, how much airspace/mounting depth did you end up with the raised seats? I really want to get some big subs back there and this is looking really good.
