Car electrical type question

Guys I hope you can help me. I'm installing a rearview camera on the back of my 5th wheel trailer. I have the camera that came with an 8v AC to DC converter @ .5 amp, it can also run off a 9v battery. Now what would happen if I connect it up to the 12v light system on the trailer? Will it most likely fry the camera? If it may hurt the camera can I add a resistor or something to step down the voltage? What would work best?

I think the best solution would be to get a car adapter (DC to DC) unit. Make sure it will provide 8 volts output at .5 amp. These units have a regulated output and would be safe to use with your camera. They are made to plug into a lighter socket, but you could wire it in to 12 volts (you should use a switched source so it would be off when the key is off) You can find these units on eBay for a low price.
