Changing The Factory Antenna

I want to change out the factory antenna (a.k.a. yardstick) with a shorty antenna. I can get the antenna off, but what remains is the threaded "stub" that the antenna screws on to. I need to remove that "stub" so I can then screw in a replacement piece that will fit the antenna I bought. I tried to get the "stub" off, but ended up messing the threads. Does anyone know if that threaded "stub" that sticks out can be removed? I looked under the hood, and getting to the part under the hood/fender that the antenna mounts to looks like it is a B**CH to get to, so I am hoping to not have to do that. Most of the aftermarket antennas don't fit foreign cars so they give you a little replacement "stubs" with half of it threaded to the manufacturers thread size/pattern, and the other half threaded to the antenna size/pattern. Has anyone removed the factory "stub" successfully, and if so, what is the trick to getting it out?

whatever replacement antenna you buy should fit. They all come with adapters. I wouldnt recommend screwing around with the threads anymore.

My experience has been that if your antenna looks cooler than the next guys, it's going to be stolen quick.

I've had billet antennas on my past trucks, shorty antennas on two of my past cars... Never ever, (knock on wood) had one stolen. My experience, use locktite on the threads and they cant be unscrewed by hand. Helps keep honest people honest.

I seriously considered changing the antenna, but then I discovered that the stock one functions pretty good as a "ceiling finder." If it hits the roof of the parking garage STOP - you've only got about an inch of clearence. Since I use a fair number of garages I figured I'd stick with the ugly original one...

antennea + clearance

Good call clancy....I havent gotten my titan yet, and it will be my first truck, so i was wondering how long it would take me to learn to judge clearances properly....your antenna trick seems like a great idea!

thanks!

1 Bad ???

Where did you get your antenna, or more importantly, who makes it? Cost?
The one I had on my Chevy only came with the little threaded stubs, not like what you have, so that is why I want/need to remove the factory threaded stub.
Can someone answer my original question please? Thanks.
