Sub Box

Are All Sub Boxes Supposed To Have Some Sort Of Sound Deadening
Material Inside? Or Does It Make Much Difference? I Have (1) 10" Sub
Under The Rear Seat And It Sounds Kind Of Punchy With No Material Inside.

Most box builders will use some poly fill when the box is a bit to small. The explanation I was given was the it slows down the sound wave and makes the speaker think that it is in a slightly larger enclosure that it really is. The rule of thumb is generally about 1lbs of poly fill per cubic ft of box space. What type of sub do you have and how big is your enclosure? On the subs spec sheet they should give the requirements for the enclosure and they generally will let you know if you need to put fill in the box.

polyfill wont get more spl per say, but it smooth out the bass repsonse since the woofer thinks its in a larger box so thet tones get deeper

if your sub neds more airspace than your box allows then it is a good thing--it smooths out the "boomy"--ness of certaing sub applications

I Was Also Wondering If A Sub Box Makes A Difference If It's Ported Or Not. Mine Is Not, But I Have Seen Them Ported.

Depending on what the sub is designed for, some times a port can help, sometimes not. With the JL's, I would stick to a smaller sealed enclosure with as much power as you can give it. As far as the polyfill, go to wallmart, target, ect and they will have it. got to the sewing materal section and they will point you to where you need to go.

No. The fiberglass in a fiberglass box forms the structure of it. A box that isn't stiff will flex and you'll end up with a terrible sounding box.
