Recommendations for In Dash DVD

I am looking for a good in dash dvd player. I'm looking for a single DIN player without a "pop-up" screen. I have looked at brands like Power AcoustiK PADVD350, SoundStorm SSSDVD120, SPL SDVD6100, several models from Pyle(of crap), Farenheit DVD-36. None of these cost more than $135. Pretty cheap. I would like to be able to play DVD +R discs and most of the spec given are vague if they will actually play the recorded discs or not.

The other item that I am looking for is a good 7" widescreen LCD monitor. I want to mount the monitor in the overhead console front flip down (sunglass holder).

Looking for opinions from people who have purchased and have experience with this type setup. Looking for good quality products.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Dave

Why you going through all that trouble? Throw an indash DVD in and not worry about it. Unless you want to use a factoy Navi as a screen. Then there is possibilities around that also. Check my indash out with factory navi. Just trying to give you some alteratives.

Indash aftermarket headunit with factory Navi

Make sure you scroll down the thread. There are more pics to see.
Hope this helps....................

HitNWakes,

Thank you for replying. I do not have the factory NAV. I have already removed the factory (no RF) 6 disc radio, swapped bezels, and installed a Pioneer DEH-P770MP HU, Pioneer Sirius SAT tuner, Pioneer 4 ch GM-6150F Amp, (4) Infinity 6.5" Ref 6002i and (2) Infinity Ref 1001t speakers. Now I want to complete the package with a DVD player and screen for my passengers.

I understand what you are saying about the hastle of having a separate DVD player and screen, but I just do not like the pop-up screens. They ARE much more convienent, but I would prefer to have the LCD screen mounted in the first overhead comparment.

I'm assuming, by the lack of response, that nobody else has tried what I am asking about. Guess I will be the first on the block, to do it. Oh well.

Thanks again for offering me some alternatives.

Dave

Man....where do you guys get the money to do all this stuff!! I know I'm just a lowly 23 yr old designer, but mortgage and New truck equals not very much money to play. I guess I'll catch up soon enough.

Wow... 150 views and only 7 posts (3 of the posts were mine) and not one suggestion / recommendation for an In Dash DVD player that does not have a built in screen.

Sickwhip, good luck on your upcoming marriage and house purchase.

Now, if noone has any suggestions pertaining to the topic, then I will go back to lurking and occasionally offerring a suggestion to other people's questions.

Dram56,

I think the problem with not getting responses is that most people have not shopped for or used a seperate dvd player and if they have it was not din.
Most mount it ine the console.

When I looked at drop down screens some came with seperate DVD units but none were DIN. Go to some manufacturer sites like Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, ETC. Look at he product lineup and then the dimensions to see if they are DIN.
If they are smaller than DIN you can put them in the dash like I did with the Kenwood DVD Navigation unit.

Here is one from JVC that I have been looking at. Sounds like it will work with the DVD+R format as well.

I don't know if you have room left in your dash but the Blaupunkt ME3 TV/DVD I installed in my center console storage works very well.
Here's a link to my install. Added DVD system

Nolan,

How did you mount the TV in the front? It looks like it's on a hinge. Can it fold down into the center tray area on top of the dash?
