Radio Install Question

I noticed alot of you guys installing recievers with built in video. If I go to Crutchfield and put the information in the drop down menus, to see..."what Fits my truck" They only show one reciever with video that fits my truck. I noticed alot of model numbers of recievers some of you are using but the site tells me they won't fit??? What do I need to make them fit?

I don't really know about video receivers but I do know why Crutchfield says many receivers won't fit the Titan. When I was looking there for a headunit, I was looking at one that was sold out. On the page an alternative was listed. After looking at the alternative though, I realized that the site said it wouldn't fit. I called them and asked about this and they told me that the reason that the particaular receiver I was looking at wouldn't fits was that it was too deep (it would go back too far into the dash). I did notice that many units will come so close to the bar running through the dash that it can be difficult to attach the cable for the antenna. Supposedly, some unites are so deep they will actualy hit the bar and not allow them to go far enough into the dash to mount properly. This is probably the case with some of the aftermarket units. The maximum depth measurement was given to me by Crutchfield but I have since lost it. You could call and ask them if you need it though.

Titan dash

Ok I'm going to call them but I noticed other pic on this forum with different bezels for aftermarket radio's where can I find them? Also some of the radios I have seen in this forum are listed in crutchfield as not being able to fit. I'm looking at a pioneer reciever with video. Someone on this site has it but crutchfield say's it won't fit????I'm wondering if they had to mod anything?

it's based on the way nissan designed the radio faceplate so it would be a NO for the SE and LE. however, put in the XE model has the standard double din opening and it should work; plus you have seen the pix so it is a go.

Actually, from what I understand, they take the bezel into account when they tell you if it will fit or not. Obviously any aftermarket headunit won't fit with the RF or non-RF 6 disk bezels. Also, just for the record, referring to the double din bezel as being only from the XEs is not really accurate. I have an SE that came with the single cd headunit with the double din bezel. I think the depth calculation comes from how the kits (Metra and Scosche) are designed. The kits are designed for the faceplate of the headunit to sit flush or slightly sunken into the kit instead of on top like most other kits. I'm pretty sure this is an attempt to match the look of the stock double din headunit which sits flush with the bezel.

hopefully you can see what I mean from the pic below:

Face plate

I have the SE and no Nav or RF. I have the Double din 6 disc radio. I noticed yours above that's the same bezel I have with the Factory radio. The bezel I want has just a small opening for a regular size radio not the double din. Does anyone know where you can purchase it? More like this but without the navigation controls:

Sorry about the size of the pic but once you open the pic you can click on it to enlarge.

I haven't seen one like that for sale yet, though I'm sure they will come about eventually. Metra does make those types of kits for other vehicles. I have seen at least one member that crafted one using fiberglass, double din bezel, and some silver paint.

Hope this will help. I also tried to use crutchfield to figure some things out.

First problem is most of the sizes they list for depth on head units are not accurate.
Second the kit they use spaces the head unit downward from the top of the faceplate opening. This then puts the h/u right in the middle of a metal support bar. Meaning the radio cannt be that deep.

You will need the double din aftermarket faceplate. I got mine from Courtesy Nissan.
Then , almost all radios are din mount. You can use the factory mounting brackets right on the sides of the new h/u.
You will also need to buy a din pocket for Nissan. Either from Metra, Scosche or the one I used from American International. ( Little note the american din pocket did not mount exactly the way it should have. I had to use some spacers on the sides and also trim a little plastic with a grinding wheel.) Other din pockets I have used in the past mount perfectly.

Why do it this way? Well, now the h/u is mounted up at the top of the faceplate opening and it misses the rear support bar that prohibits deep radios. I installed a Kenwood KVT-915DVD without any modifying. According to Crutchfield that would be impossible.

I f you have a second din unit you can lose the din pocket and the two units will fill the faceplate hole exactly. The second din down has to be a little shallower due to the support bar in the dash.
You can also tap the support bar in a little if absoulutely necessary. ( but only as a last resort.

You can look at my post under Factory System Details and see my headunit install. I have since added a Kenwood 4100 Navigation unit under my h/u. It was not Din so some fabricating was done.
