Swapping single to 6 disc

I currently have the single cd player. Is upgrading to the RF or regular 6 disc HU simple? Can I just remove the old bezel and single cd then just add the 6 disc changer and matching bezel. Is there anything else involved. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if it is that simple, but if so I have a 6-disc with bezel for sale

Saw that. Would like to see if it would work.

Well you can't "simply" upgrade to the RF model, as it has an external amplifier and I cringe at the thought of having to wire that up. It wouldn't be worth the effort when an aftermarket unit would be better to begin with. Now the midline system, I can't really tell you, but I would think it would be an easy swap.

Yeah, not to mention trying to locate the stock external amplifier in the stock location!! I'm sure the correct wires are already there in your dash, but maybe not necessarily the same connectors. You could use the 6-disc changer and order the stock wire harness to plug in the back and wire it up to the existing wires and to an aftermarket amplifier using a LOC. The advantage would be having the in-dash changer and having a stock look.

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Why not just go aftermarket? It whould be a much easier upgrade, especially if you have the baseline system and would sound better to boot.

I don't know for sure but I'm betting that swapping the base double din single cd for the non-RF 6 disk changer would be pretty simple. The base unit has just the two plugs and I'm pretty sure the non-RF 6 disk changer does as well. I'm betting a simple swap of the head unit and bezel would plug right in and work perfectly. The harness that Crutchfield sells for the non-RF 6 disk and the single CD double din are the same so that should mean that the wiring is 100% compatible. I actually pondered doing this at first but then decided to go with an aftermarket headunit and speakers for the better sound. If you're planning on leaving the stock speakers in place then this sounds like a good idea. If not, well, you don't want to run aftermarket speakers off eith of those headunits. It'll sound like crap. I tried it for a few days while waiting for my aftermarket HU to arrive. I warn you not to go that route....

The RF 6-disc also has just the 2 plugs. There is actually a 3rd plug, but it is for the steering wheel controls which I assume isn't an option with the standard HU.

The only advantage that I can see to swapping out the standard HU for the RF or non-RF 6-disc HU is to get the added features without losing the stock look. Others here have used the 6-disc HU with aftermarket amps and speakers using a LOC that converts the line-out signal to a pre-amp output signal. From what I understand it is pretty simple to add.
