What's under the ribbed, plastic tailgate protector?
Or put another way, has anyone taken off the ribbed, plastic, tailgate protector on their Titan? Reason I'm asking is that I'm considering removing the plastic protector and having the tailgate covered with a spray-on liner to match the bed. The protector gets very slick when wet, and with my canines jumping in and out of my truck after a day in the marsh, it can be hazardous to their health.

There is a metal plate which covers the lock and latch. Just painted same as truck. The only negative is that the screw heads may stick up a little but, its been awhile since I've had the cover off so I may be mistaken.

I had them remove the bed liner when i bought my truck, cause i feel they are worthless and just create a breeding ground for rust, and rubbing off of the paint. they also knocked the cost of it off the price. Boone is correct, the bolts that hold it on there stick up, waaay up, about 3/4 of an inch. I had them put new shorter bolts in at the dealership.

I wanted to do the same. What spray liner are you using that will match?
I'm thinking about going with Line-X because it appears to be as close to the factory Nissan liner as I've seen. There is a fellow at my Office that has a truck with a Line-X bed, and it looks very similar to my Titan's bed.
As for the bolts that stick up, I guess I'll have to get some low-profile bolts to replace the ones that I have now. The main thing I wanted to find out was if I removed the cover and had the liner applied would it interfere in any way with the operation of the tailgate? Thanks for the responses.
