Question Need advice on adding power windows/locks

Hey all,

Has anyone successfully added (at a minimum) power locks to a '05 Titan King Cab XE? I've recently gone to a local stereo shop, who of course, install alarm systems as well-- they attempted to add keyless entry with the use of aftermarket actuators and later notified me that since the Titan uses the cable lock mechanism, that the keyless functionality would fail eventually. What's the best way to go about adding power locks without going to Nissan and spending the $600-$800 on the power window/lock package? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I would just spend 600-800 and get the power window/lock package. Local stereo shop will charge you anywhere from 99.00 to 800.00 for a alarm. Plus all the accessory to install the stuff. So in the long run , you will most likely spend more money , unless you install it yourself.

maybe i am out of my element here, but isn't there a rod used to connect the external key cylinder with the locking mechanism? if yes, you can add an actuator here. if expense is an issue, i would risk it and deal with it if and when it fails.

Its not a rod, but a cable. This makes it a little more difficult.

Unhappy

Thank you both for your input-- I was afraid going to Nissan was the only way. I ended up going to a stereo shop mainly to have a system installed, but decided on getting keyless added for convenience.. guess this will have to wait.

Is it possible to go back to the dealer to install the power package?? I just assummed you get what you see at the dealer. Has anyone gone back to bring their XE to get the power package from the dealer? I'll have to make a call before I go to the aftermarket stores..

From my understanding it will be quite expensive to have OEM power installed.

transmitter is $144.23 each
lock actuator is $44.75 to $74.60 each depending on the door
keyless control module is $89.57 each
window regulator is $81.31 each
window relay is $16.47 each
window motor is $244.51 Need one for each window
Don't know the price of the new wire harnesses, but you'll need one for each door too.

Then there is, "Well, now that I have power windows and locks, now I want power mirrors. And I kinda like the idea lit mirrors behind the sun visors too. Um, how much for leather?"

My opinion is to trade up for an SE or LE, or go with aftermarket parts. I went aftermarket. When I bought the truck, I honestly didn't expect to drive it as much as I do. So now that I drive it 3 days a week, I really wanted the power package.

Check www.a1electric.com. Great prices and service.

Oh yeah, if the power door locks are installed properly, they will not fail. I'd find another shop, or do it yourself.

If it is just 600-800 bucks at the dealer, then go for it. I spoke to a guy at a stereo shop who came in with a white titan. He mentioned that he went to a couple of places and that particular shop was the cheapest. They guaranteed their work, but were charging him $100 buck a door. That was just for power locks.

Wow, that's pricey. I guess if people are willing to spend the money, why not take it.

Looks like that # 6 is a metal rod but I do not think that it is very accessable. I installed a keyless kit to my titan. IT is not as hard as you are made to believe. But you do have to strip the cable back and make a bracket to stablize the cable for when the actuator operates.

Do a search on it. I responded to someone in the past about this very thing. Some one also posted a how-to at one time.

I have some pics of my lock and window install on my signature below. There are quite a few threads on the topic that can be easily found.
