Wiring aftermarket amp to stock sub?? What wires to tap?

I would prefer to tap in down by the subwoofer as opposed to under the dash by the amp. Has anybody done this? How did it sound? How much power did you run to it? I plan to build a custom box for a solobaric I have but already have the amp wired up so might as well utilize the stock sub in the meantime. Any help is appreciated!

Taping at the subwoofer is not recommended because one will be picking up the audio after it goes through the facotry amp. At least one person attempted this and reported it sounded awful. The subwoofer is really a joke - approx. 6 inch speaker mounted in the box via a screw through the bottom of the box into the rear of the speaker.

If you connect this way I doubt you will like the results.

No no...I think you misunderstood. The factory amp is removed completely. I have an aftermarket deck with a subwoofer preamp output feeding a RF 2 Ch amp, which is then bridged to one channel and will eventually be powering a solo baric sub.

In the MEANTIME I want to hook up the RF amp to the now useless and unpowered stock sub...just to have some bass in the meantime.

That, however, is disappointing news. I have heard a lot of stock subs and this one does *not sound as bad as many* so I am suprised its not sealed or anything. Guess I will have to take a look for myself...

But back to the point, has anybody powered it off a real amp?? I thought I had read it in a thread a few months back that somebody had hooked it up and and it, as well as the front doors sounded good, while the rear doors were useless.

Why dont you try it out, just watch the gains on the amp and listen to any malfunction on the sub to keep it from blowing and hurting your amp, the sub is probably 8 ohm so it might not draw to much power form the amp, just check t out first...

How about using another 6" sub like the JL 6w0, do you guys think it might work?
