Crossover Question

I will be picking up my 2005 titan SE crew cab shortly and have planned a sound system:

Kenwood KDC x589 HU
Kenwood music keg
MB PCE 216 front door
MB RCE 216 rear door
JL stealth box
JL 500/5 amp

My question is: the head unit has crossovers, the amplifier has crossovers and the speakers come with crossovers- which to use?
I have hear talk on the forum about wanting to use active digital crossovers but this is not my area and would love some help.
Thank you.

Have not heard about the sound from people who have used stealth box. How does it sound??

You have to use all three. Not sure about your HU crossover, I'm guessing you are talking about for the sub output. You'll still want to use the amplifier's crossover, as most HU's only have like 3 or so levels to choose from, where the amp has a infinite level selection. For your mids and highs you'll only have one signal per channel going to the amp where you'll need to run a high pass and set the crossover to whatever works best for your components. The passive crossovers included with your speakers divide up the frequencies to the tweets and mids. This is how you would have to do it unless your amp(s) have a seperate channel for every singal speaker (tweets, mids, subs) and also have crossovers. I've never seen one that does, but I've seen electronic crossovers to divide up the frequencies per specific speaker. That would involve a lot of wiring and amps... and money.

I would not do it, Kenwood does not seem to stand by their products to me I have a whole set of speakers that work perfect but I could not get the little 2 cent piece around the tweeter that gives it the flush factory look that busted when uninstalling from my old truck so I now have 4 speakers ( 2 mids and 2 tweets) that are all useless. I have never been a fan of kenwood products although their dual mag excelon components do sound good, this was anotyher reminder why I'm not a big fan. They want me to buy a whole new set of speakers to get this tiny plastic piece so I will have to go with a better brand like diamonds that would not fit in my last truck do to shallow mounting depth.

It works like Sammy Said 1 channel to the crossover that divides the mid and tweeter.

JL 500 watt 5 channel amp? The JL Stealthbox requires 600 watt RMS itself + you want to run your other speakers off an amp too. I think your going to need their Large 5 channel amp and it comes with a heafty pricetag, you might want to get another brand if it's too much although the JL amps are very good! I'm sure the stealthbox will sound great.

I have my alpine 9835 running all my crossover points

tweets @ 4khz

mids 63hz---4000hz

subs @ 100hz

if you have the right deck you can use the deck only and leave the amps crossovers alone

Smoke,

That's what I did in my '00 Grand Prix I had a Kenwood Excelon X9(something) and I was able to control the subs, mids, and highs all from the drivers seat. A lot of people rip on Kenwood, but I've had no problems from them at all. Of course I only buy their top of the line Excelon products (maybe that has something to do with it). But in the car audio business you usually always pay for what you get. If you buy a $50 amp it will sound like a $50 amp, but if you buy a $500 amp it will sound like a $500 amp. It's an expensive game, but you've have got to pay to play.
