im looking to get a bug shield for my titan i'll be honest i really dont like the look of it but the chips on my hood are getting worse. i just dont know wish color to go with black or the new stainless steal one. can any one post some pics of there titan with both of these one's installed. my titan is galaxy black. oh and to top it off i was closing my hood today and so i lowered it till it clicked then i push it down to finish closing it and i put a dent on the hood i did'nt even push that hard on it. what kind of matteral do they use to build this trucks the same one they use to make coca-cola cans.my wife tells me that i'm an animal that i think i'm at the gym bench pressing or something because i'm known to always braking everything because i put too much force into it but i sware i barely push it but she dont believe me based on my history oh well.your pics will help a bunch thanks guys
If you look at the pics of mine in the link near my signature, you will see the painted color matched bug deflector and the stainless steel one. The color matched one is kinda hard to see, but if you look close you will be able to make out the lines of it.

I originally picked up a bug shield from my local Nissan dealer, took it home and discovered that you had to stick tape on the paint as part of the installation of the shield. I returned the shield that same day. Later I found out (from this site) there are other types that do not require affixing tape to your hood as part of the installation. As to your dents, my truck was at a trailer shop and they accidentally popped the hood open thinking it was the release for the parking brake. When the guy closed my hood, he put two dings right along the front ridgeline. Since I had already heard about how weak the hoods were, I knew exactly how & why it happened. They called one of those dent repair guys and he fixed it on the spot with all kinds of neat little tools that neither scratched or marred the finish in any noticeable way. I'm pretty picky when it comes to that kind of thing and I was very impressed with the results. No matter how hard I look from any direction, I can't tell the dents were ever there. Evidently he charged the trailer dealership $100.

fdiesel, like yourself I've never been a fan of bug shields appearance-wise. However, as you also have learned, the hood dents easily. I read about this problem a lot when I first started visiting this site, and that was precisely why I bought a hood protector - as a deterrent so that the grease monkeys would not push down on my hood and dent it. I went with the OEM protector and am very happy with it. I'm not at all concerned about the tape. All of the brands that are out there are pretty low profile so they all look alright IMO, so I highly recommend you purchase whichever one suits your fancy...also whenever I bring it somewhere for service I make a point of telling them not to apply pressure to my hood, simply place a couple fingers on the protector and gently slam it down. They look at me kinda funny, but I explain the problem to them and then they make a notation of it on the work order.

guys thanks for all your replies i thank you for taking time to respond to my question i just need to deside if to go with black or stainless i'm leaning more to stainless but not sure i just wish i can see a galaxy black with it on you guys think it look cool or too much crome
I've got the Lund one in the smoke color. The only thing I've noticed about it recently is that I think it flexes some above 80-85mph on the highway.
I think I bought from http://www.autopartswarehouse.com which had free shipping on orders over $100, so I got my K&N drop in at the same time. They were the best price that I had found at the time.
Oh also, if you aren't crazy about the bug deflector I would go with one painted to match the truck. I've seen a few driving around like that, and it's hard to see them unless you look close.
fdiesel, just to let you know, you can get a plain smoke AVS (made by Lund) from Advance Auto Parts for as little as $35 plust tax. They ordered one for me and had it the next day. I too had a few rock pecks on the front edge of the hood and didn't want to let it go anymore. After I got it, I actually like the look of it. Also, it attaches with double sided tape on the inside of the hood. Nothing attaches on the outside. You do have the option of using screws on the inside as well but they are unnecessary.
I've got the stainless on a Deep Water and really like it. You may blind other drivers in direct sunlight though. Also, don't ever push down on your hood.....I know you want to, everyone does. Just lower it to about 4 inches from closing and drop it. I've heard of too many people denting the Titan this way. Talk about crumple zones.

Thanks fdiesel, I got it from etruckoutfitters.com, he's a sponsor over at the club. It was $109 and I can't remember if that included shipping or not. I really like the way it looks and it gets a lot of looks. It's real stainless steel, not plastic. This could be good or bad because it won't break but it might dent.

How good do this bug deflectors work on keeping the glass clean on highways?
They don't. Well, that may not be true, but I've always thought that they were more for looks than anything else. However, I do get fewer chips on the hood so maybe it does work.........
