Vent removal?

Hey All,
Anybody removed the outside vents, specifically the drivers side? Seems my little deflectors have come apart, and if I can save a trip to the dealer then I will.
Thanks for the help.

In my current quest to find and remove a rattle in my truck, I have taken apart much of the interior.

The side vents are held to the main dash with

- 1 ea screw located under the black rubber mat
- 1 ea screw located behind the lower dash panel (which is held on by clips - just pull it off)
- 3 integrated plastic "hooks".

Remove the lower dash panel, remove the 2 screws listed above, and gently pull the vent out.

I would post a pic of the FSM, but it's worthless for interior part removal. Just do what I say, and you will be fine. The plastic seems tough, and before I found the lower screw I tried to remove the whole assy, and nothing broke, so you should be okay.

- Mike

Just like Aggie said, 2 screws. Just remove the screws and pull. As far as dis-assembling the vents. On each side of the vent there are 2 clips that hold the baffle assembly to the back-side of the trim. One of the sides are plastic welded on, so you have to break the weld to undo the clips. You'll see when you get it out.

Problem with these vents is that once they get loose, they keep falling apart. I've taken mine out to paint, and the driver's side vent baffles keep coming loose. The others are fine though.

Yeah, I've got a roll of aluminum tape, some felt and foam sheets, and Gorilla Glue with my Titan interior's name all over it.

I'm armed and ready to fight every rattle possible.

I plan on taking some good pictures of the process and detailing where I find my rattles and how I eliminate them. I've currently be driving around without my side vents, a-pillar covers, and oh-sh!t handles, in a attemt to locate the rattles. I elimated a rattle on the passenger side (due to the unsecured vent) and found one on the driverside where the dash rattles against the firewall.

Pics to follow later. I found some awesome black felt and foam pads in the Crafts & Fabrics section of Walmart for $0.50 each (8" x 12" piece) and I plan on lining my center consol and cup holders with that stuff to reduce the rattle caused by stuff moving around.
