[pics 8/29/05] Can I get some Window Tint opinions?
ok guys, i have the sweet hookup on some window tinting for my truck. basically, it's a guy that's been doing it for a long time and he usually charges a lot but i get it done for free. he even does the entire city police department.
anyways, i have a crew cab with what appears to be 17-18% tint from what i've found on the forum. some have done 15% while others have done 20% on the front doors to get a good match.
i'm not the most law-abiding citizen out there but in this case, i want to keep cool, look like a silhouette, and maybe even be legal.
i first considered doing 35% on the all the doors and the back making the front doors 35% and the back doors and the back would be (.35 * 18%) 6.3%. i liked the idea of having the back really dark and the front lightly tinted. i thought of this before i found out that the rear tint could be matched up pretty well.
on the other hand, should i break the law and tint the front doors at 20% and nothing in the back? i'm from missouri where the law is 35% or lighter on the front doors and anything on the back.
or.... should i do 20% on the front doors and add either 35% or 20% to the back?
i'm torn because the tint job will be free. if it was a monetary issue, i would just do 20% on the front and be done with it.
it's all preference and i'm curious what you guys think about it considering money is no issue.

I was just thinking the same thing today when I was cleaning my beast. Honestly i like the look of real clean non-tinted front windows. I say get them tinted lightest possible. This also make driving alittle safer at night.

I had 20 in front but got a tix due to another violation. gonna retint the same for privacy reasons when parked. I wouldn't do the back windows cause it will be too dark to back up and stuff.
i'd have your friend do the entire front windshield but light in shade (almost clear) to block uv rays. it's hot in these trucks.

I went 35% on the fronts, it is a little lighter than the backs but not too much to look bad. I dont like vehicles with dark in rear and light in front but the 35% is not that bad. See SIG pic. The law around here is that 70% must pass through front windows. I really was/am not going for the look, I like the reduced heat and glare.

i wasn't going to do lighter in the back. the back is already tinted 18% from the factory and i was considering put 35% over it to get it down to 6.3% due to the multiplier effect.
*sigh* maybe i'll just do 20% up front and risk getting hit with a violation. i don't know if i want to do 35% up front and keep the rear at 18%... it's kinda too close and it'll look like i'm trying to match but i'm unsucessful.
any other opinions?

We have the same dilemma here. I'm on the KS-OK border, KS is 35% & OK is 20%. The darker looks alot better, but is harder to see out of at night. Usually the cops won't hassle you about the tint unless you're a kid and they just need some reason to stop you, or they get you for some other violation and they want to just pile on. Sometimes what works is if you get stopped, before the officer gets to your vehicle, roll down both windows and he's alot less likely to notice it. We did have a misguided Wyatt Earp type in Nowata County, OK stop cars with perfectly legal 20% tint because someone at the police academy told him drug dealers use the tint to hide drug deals. I personally do the 20% and take my chances.
I went with 35% up front. I like it, but it is hard to see when you get in a poorly lit parking garage and you are trying to back in to a spot next to a concrete pillar. I would imagine that if you went darker you'd have to roll down your window to be sure.

I did mine in 20, and I'm glad I didn't go lighter. It's a tiny bit lighter than the front, not really noticable unless you know. I just took a picture for you so you could see, and the morning sun is shining through the tint.
Ignore the rest of the truck, it's filthy from a trip to the beach!
thanks TOK for going out of the way and taking a special picture for me. your truck looks great. if i didn't get white, i would have definitely got black.
