Homemade dead pedal...

I decided to make my own dead pedal out of a 7"x3"x 0.25" piece of 2024-T3 aluminum. I wanted something a little firmer than the stock pad. I drilled five (5) 5/32" holes in a cross pattern, countersunk. I removed the stick-on ribbed pad and mounted the plate where I wanted it. I drilled two pilot holes into the metal floor with a 0.087" bit and secured two of the five sheet metal screws. The other three screwed into the thick padding. I know it does not look as pretty as the aftermarket stuff, but it serves my purpose. I will post pics later.

I'd like to see pics. I've wanted to do this on my truck, I'm just a bit scared to drill into the floor. The stock dead-pedal is very uncomfortable.

Pics are up. I like the firmer feel. The plate offers more surface area to rest my foot. I used the old ribbed pad as a right foot heel guard. A couple of dots of hot glue, we'll see how it holds up.

Excellent idea. Since a machined finish is out, I think I'd put a little extra piece of carpet over it. Big piece of velcro might be perfect to hold it firm yet still give access to screws.

Or hit it with some scotch-brite for the brushed look. You can achieve a like-machined look if you are carefull and only go in the same direction with the scotch-brite.

Looks good. Thanks for the pics.

I used a drill with sander attachment, using 400 grit paper (I think) to get this effect on my custom Volant lid I made.

Nice work, might also suggest screws that are not rounded out. Kinda makes it look like a home job ...

Dead pedal, huh. What happened to the lost art of two-footin' it? After all, We all have free lifetime brakes. Nothing's more enjoyable than irritating the people behind you by ever so gently illuminating your brakelights every 5 seconds.
