XE power window relay trigger

Been thinking again....when I wired my power windows in, I just tapped into a hot wire and the windows are available all the time whether the engine is one or off. course, this means if I have a short sometime in the switch, it will run the battery down. I was thinking, maybe the best way to set up a trigger for a relay controlling power to the windows would be a hot line off the circuit that runs the bed light for a few minutes after you leave the truck or when you open the door. that way, you'd have power to the windows right before you start the truck and for several minutes after. but, after a few minutes, it would be cut off. whatchathink power window club?

I do not think that will work since the bed light is probably on a switch that comes on when the truck is off or bed light is turned on. Anything before that may be hot or hot when the key is turned on. It may be better to connect to a wire that becomes hot when the ignition is turned on.

I'd spliced into the ignition hot wire so that they are only powered when the ignition is on.

dang, you may be right. what ya could do is do both a ignition hot wire and the bedlight hot wire to the relay. I'm glad I asked.

You have the constant +12V. You need the Ignition +12V if you only want your windows to work when the key is in.

yeah, I'm thinking two relays from the same power source. one relay triggered by the ignition and the other by the bedlight circuit. that would give me the power for awhile after engine turned off and it would still cut off totally after a few minutes.
