Fixing a Scratched Interior?

I was wondering if anyone knows what you can do to fix the scratches on the center console, or at least make them less noticeable? I know we all have them because the plastic is so dangblang cheap, so someone's probably already found a fix. I did a search and came up with nada and everything I've tried so far hasn't worked. Thanks in advance for the help.

Good question! My wife put a big scratch on my glove compartment and it's driving me crazy....Hopefully someone here has found a fix.

Scratch the crap out of the rest of your truck interior and then it will look like its suppost to look like that. Ok....I know you want a real answer....Try going to the junk yard and Im sure that you will find the piece in a recked Titan for real cheap. I dont think the can really fix the plastics to make it look perfect.

I'm not trying to make it look like new again by any means, but just want to find a way to make it less noticable. The part that I scratched is the cover for the center console storage, and it looks like hell. It and the tray thing on the back of the passenger seat are really cheap and turn white where it gets scratched. Heck, it didn't even scratch it, but just sort of scuffed it and discolored it. The engineer who came up with the specs for the plastic should be shot.

Depending on the plastic, you could try a vinyl dye spray. I've never used it, but if it works, it'll at least make the scratches the same colour as the rest of the surface.

I don't know about where ya'll are from, but at the dealship I work at, if you have warranty they should just order you another dash or whatever it is you need if you complain about it being scratched or damaged.

That might work for a one-week-old truck but I doubt it would fly after the truck is a few months or a year or two old.

Maybe they need to take their truck to the dealership at which you work. Tell the people where to bring their trucks so they can tell the folks VMX-TITAN sent them.

Repairing dash scratches

Okay folks, here's the skinny.

You'll have to color match the dash. They have various kits out there that can do this but I must tell you, it's a hunt and peck method for getting the match right.

I haven't actually tried it but if you can take a trim piece off, head over to Lowes or Home Depot and have them find the match for you!

A. If it is the textured plastic, they have textured "dabs" that you can use to match the pattern.

B. If it is on the hard shiny plastic, your best bet is to paint the entire trim piece. If that is the case, you will need to lightly scuff and sand the area to remove the scratch.

My sister is an engineer at Steelcase and works on various coatings. She tests office furniture and shed some light on how they repair these kinds of plastics, coatings, surfaces...

I once bought those aftermarket kickpanel speakers for a truck. I was able to get an exact color match custom made of vinyl paint from an auto parts dealer. Maybe you could spray some on a plate and lightly apply like touch up paint. It wasnt that expensive. I would also consider trying a dremmel tool with maybe a buffer attachment and test on a small portion to see if it could soften the rough edges.

I've had some luck with Meguairs dash foam. The soft interior plastic is everywhere in an Armada. Remeber, I don't have a nice large bed to throw stuff in, so I get some scratches. The Dash foam seems to fade them dramatically, but not fully. I have made some minor ones go away, and major scratches look minor. Past that, you need to replace or use the paint/dye, etc.

Burn It

When I had an alarm put in, the jackoffs used a screw driver to pop out the top dash and lower piece under the steering wheel. They scarred it all to hell. Another car audio place finished the project and used a lighter to melt it to near pre-incident quality. Had the original guys pay for the complete replacement of the top dash, bottom piece, and the door panel (was installing power windows and they scratched the door panel when they put it on ground) Cost them a cool 1,900 bones. You can hardly notice it now. So... in a hundred words or less the cheap way to fix the scratched up dash is to use a lighter.
