Home Link rear view mirror mod

I just bought a 2006 sentra se-r. It has no homelink, I have become attached to it when I had my titan. Is there a way to wire one up and replace the stock non home link one in a sentra?

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

You can probably purchase the homelink but I remember somewhere that it was priced like 300-400 dollars a unit.

Then you have to figure out the power supply for the unit.

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

What you are looking for is the GENK50. This is the same model that Nissan uses OEM. Do a google search and you will find them several places. I just installed one on my 05 Frontier. It comes with the wiring harness (including temp sensor). To connect you need permanent battery, ACC battery and ground. The circuit diagram for your vehicle should indicate a convenient place to tap for battery and switched battery, otherwise you can tap at the rear of the radio.
It is relatively simple to remove the standard mirror and attach the new one. It took about an hour on the Frontier and that included loosening the front trim piece down the side of the windshield to route the wiring harness, taping into the DC and routing the temp sensor to an area in front of the radiator.

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

Hey everybody I had an idea about the home link . Can you wire up the homelink
with a channel from your car alarm to open up your garage. So far I've tested all the wires comin from the back of the homelink and nothing. You've proably have to open the homelink up and soilder something. So if anybody has got any ideas how to do this mod I would love to hear about it.

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

I believe someone posted on this forum that they went to a junk yard and got the HL off of a wrecked car and did an install.

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

do you have a viper or clifford alarm? if so, buy the 519H module that wires inline with the button in the garage. (clifford g5 or viper 433mhz remotes/alarms use the one with green LEDs; otherwise, the red LED system.) if you don't have an alarm, you can get the unit with the remotes (as many as 12 can be programmed; control as many as 3 items). the remote attaches to your keyring so it'll be on you all the time and not a concern if the car is left outside sometimes. i have second car, i exit via the garage door, don't drive all the time when i got out...it's even better than homelink!

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

homelink is easy to install, all the visor systems I've taken apart only had +12v and ground. I used to rip them out of junked cars from salvage yards and install them on mine and some buddies sportbikes. There used to be two types, those that work with rolling code garage doors, and those that didn't. I can't remember the exact year, but I'm sure most 97 or newer vehicles would be able to handle rolling code. I used to have a huge list of all the cars that had them in their visor, but I couldn't find my list.

Re: Home Link rear view mirror mod

The first 3 I bought, went like this.
$5 for the first one
$20 for the second at a different yard
$15 back at the first yard.

They didn't seem to care about the homelink in the visor, and just charged normal price for it.

BUT, the computer inventoried yards, don't have them in a specific category either. So, you just have to walk around and look.
