I don't think I'll go this route though, as I think I can find better uses for $75.

This bugs me on my wife's new Pathfinder as well. I think it should be set so that as soon as you shift out of park, it locks. When you put it back in park, it unlocks... Having a baby on the way in less than 8 weeks, I seem to be over analyzing everything "safety-wise" on the new vehicle...

But in my mind, this is a serious oversight...
