Leather seat wear

Just curious if it is common to have the leather start loosening up from the seat cushion after a few miles? Mine is an 05 with 11K and I use Meguiar's about twice per month.

It is difficult to tell in the photo but the leather is starting to get loose.

Also--I have not used Scotchgard or any water-protector/repellent on the seats.

thanks

Re: Leather seat wear

That looks pretty normal. Mine did the same thing. I have had the drivers seat back replaced due to excessive ware. After about 20K miles mine was chafing and looked well worn on the drivers outside side bolster. Nissan replaced it under "Good Will" stating that it was normal ware but they wanted to keep me happy. But when the new seat back arrived it had a much looser fit than the original. I believe that the originals were stretched too tight, causing excessive ware due to no give in the leather.

Re: Leather seat wear

That's not wear...that's normal expansion of the leather.

Re: Leather seat wear

thanks for the input--I just hate looking and sitting on something that looks like a football that's been in the lake.

should I wait awhile for it to get worse and then complain to the dealer?

did you guys do scotchgard/water protection on your seats?

Re: Leather seat wear

I just had the driver side seat bottom replaced this week. The seat edge where the a$$ first meets the seat had some small cracks. It was very minor. The dealer looked at it and said "no problem". I also got the tow harness fixed and the fuel sending unit replaced. My gas tank actually reads full when it is full.

If it bothers you, ask the dealer to fix it on your next trip there. The worst that can happen is they will say "no".

Re: Leather seat wear

The worst that can happen is they will replace the seats and break/destroy all the clips that hold the wires in place under the seat.

Well thats what happened to me...

They tried to tell me it's not a big deal it will still work fine (with all the wires hanging and rubbing on my amplifier under the seat.

Made them fix it but I know some of the clips are still broken because they are part of the plug connectors, and I'm pretty sure they didn't solder up new connectors in 20 minutes...

In my case I wish I had not had them replace the seat, I think they did more damage than repairs.

If you use the butt warmers that will also contribute to this.....

Re: Leather seat wear

The seats are more vinyl than leather and I think Nissans poor excuse for leather seats suck. I wish there was a way to have a class action suit for theft by deception. I paid for a leather interior and got sh*t instead. I would have paid a few hundred dollars more to get what I want.
Next Nissan is an SE instead of an LE and I'll have leather seats made. I want the ENTIRE seating surface to be leather, like in the old days. You used to be able to smell the leather.

Re: Leather seat wear

Nissan "leather" seats are a bit of a sham. I had an 01 Maxima SE with leather and the side bolster on the driver seat started to crack. I took it to the dealer and they sent me to an upholstery shop to get the panel replaced. The upholstery guy said " that's not leather...that's vinyl..we can't fix it."
Apparently Nissan likes to use a leather center panel with vinyl sides on the seats of their leather interiors. It looks the same ...but wears at different rates.

I agree, the "leather" isnt very nice in the titans. but the cloth feels like rat hair compared to my gmc sieera i traded in. i actually read in consumer reports or one of those mags that the titan are made with leather front seats and "simulated leather VINYL" in the rear. What the @%&%! the sticker said leather! start the lawsuit im in. My next one too will be bought with cloth and i could get 100% nice leather for prob the same cost as the dealer upgrade. and in my choice of color too! Leather...i say Pleather...

2004, 26000 miles, mine looks like this. Taken care with Zaino Leather Dressing or Poorboy's World Leather Dressing.

Re: Leather seat wear

If you read the actual description of the leather seats, you'll notice most brocures etc state "leather seating surfaces" not "leather seats" the difference being leather seating surfaces are generally the area your but and lower back touch, the rest is vinyl. In many cases the vinyl is cheaper than the cloth. Most rear seats are all vinyl. Vinyl runs about $7 per linear yard for Nissan and the leather they spec runs about $18 per linear yard. Based on the vinyl savings over cloth, I would almost expect the cost per vehicle to be the same. This just tells you how much more profit they make on the LE's.
