Center console lid doesn't stay up

When I open the center console while driving should it stay up on it own? Mine slams down as soon as i let go of it. I seem to remember it staying up until i closed it. Maybe my truck is just getting old (its an 04). Anyone know of a fix for this? I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Also i've taking the center concole out before. Is there something i forgot to do when reassembling it?

Re: Center console lid doesn't stay up

Get the Wet Okole seat covers!
I have the split bench and my console lid would always slam down when I didn't want it to. After I put my Wet Okoles on, it stays up till I say so.
Of course I'm sure there's a less expensive way to fix the problem. It seems that by adding the material back near the hinged part of the lid, it doesn't have the freedom to fall shut. Maybe start looking at it that way and you can install felt strips or something to create some "snugativity" back there.

There's really nothing to hold it up in place, I think it's just over time that it might have loosen up. Looking at the lid, you can take the "rod" out off the hinge and bend it a little and re-insert it.
