How to remove scratches from Dash?

So I have some light scratches on my dash and various locations on the plastic around the dash. What's the best way to get rid of these? Someone told me that if I get fine sand paper (400 grit) that might help?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: How to remove scratches from Dash?

I remember a post here where someone said they removed light scratches in the interior plastic by waving a lighter flame close to the scratch.

Yes...

NO don't do it. 400 paper on a plastic dash will scratch the hell out of it. Even 600 paper is too gritty...even if you use the wet/dry stuff.

Try a product like PlastX from Meguiars. It will work, but it takes time. Use your fingers to apply it. It may take several applications for it to work.

Re: How to remove scratches from Dash?

For light scratches, the "Lighter" trick work for me. Use a lighter and wave it back and forth over the scratches. Don't hold in one place or you'll melt the plastic.
