Stupid Radar Question

I never had a radar, so here is why I'm asking.

Basically does it detects that you got cought with a police radar, or what? If so, why do you need it, if they already got your speed?

it only really works good if you are travelling far back form someone who is going fast too... so when the cop turns on the radar, your detector goes off, you slow down and by the time he pops you, you are legal.... it used to work good when the cops radar was on all the time, it was like a beacon.. but now they have instant-on controlled through the radar aentenna i beileve... so it still has its limitations.... but yes, a buddy of mine was a cop, we were in a parking lot, he was on duty and we were talking, both of us in our cars and he flipped his radar on and popped a car, and had the speed before my detector went off...

Radar detectors are tools, not devices that give you the freedom to speed. A combination of a GOOD detector, knowledge of how it and radar works and smart driving can save you some tickets. The main secret to their use these days is to pick up the cops pegging other cars in front of you. If your the only car on the road, chances are its not gonna work unless the cop is lazy and leaves his radar on. Most aren't going to turn it on until they see you.

It works pretty well for radar as the cop is typically parked somewhere along the highway hitting the cars in front of you. So you will detect when he radars the other cars and have a chance to slow down. The real problem is the laser, which you won't detect until you are nailed.

ones thing is for sure... sometimes you can talk your way out of a ticket, but once the cop sees a detector, instant ticket if you were speeding...
