Re: window tint?

I have now seen people post that the rear windows are factory tinted to 15%, 18%, and 20%.

How are you guys coming up with these numbers? Who actually knows?

Re: window tint?

i dont know what my shop used... When he came to pick up my truck he asked how i wanted it.. I told him fronts to match the rear. He said he could get pretty close but a obvious diffrence but if he did all 5 they would be a perfect match all the way around. I said do it!.. 1.5hrs later i had a truck with fancy tinted windows. I LOVE IT!! my cost would have been 170 but we traded buisness services and i got it done for free

if you get your windows tinted tell the shop to check for you. the reason most are getting scrached because of stuff like sand sitting on the rubber and pressing against the window film.

Re: window tint?

I was wondering if anyone here knew if self installation of the moleskin was possible? I live in alaska and sadly no one here offers such a thing. I recently had a complete tint job done on my 04' titan.

It has a custom flame on the front windows, and a full tint ( no limit in AK ) all around the back.

I would hate to have to deal with redoing the custom tinting as it ran me close to 280 dollars with the flame etching and my name in it.

Anyone ideas?

Re: window tint?

I would certainly think it was possible - it just might require taking off the door panel for better access to the rubber lip in there.

Re: window tint?

I appreciate the reply. I found some installation procedures on the net and it seems a bit time consuming but not all that hard.

Re: window tint?

If it were me, I'd just set my truck on fire and buy a new one with the felt strip.

Re: window tint?

My truck feels like it has the felt in as well, but I won't trust it. Also there must be some crap on the roller or something because I get that small line about 7 inches long from the top to the middle of the window perfectly center. It will wipe clean but still annoying.

Re: window tint?

The dealership mentioned this "moleskin strip" to me as well when I inquired about having them tint my windows....how much extra does this cost when tinting, and do all tint shops carry them?

The dealership wanted $179 to tint the fronts to match and do the moleskin which IMO is really high. I'm from Oklahoma and put 5% limo tint on ALL the windows on my last ext cab truck I owned (3-4 years ago) for about $120.

Re: window tint?

I called a place around here in Florida, and the guy said for a while they were putting the felt strips on the windows in Nissan Titans, but with as hot as it gets around here, he said more trucks were coming back with lines on them from the glue on the felt streaking and smearing than from the tint getting scratched. He said the tint itself is pretty durable, and he's since quit putting the felt strips on there, and he's having less problems that way.
