Adding footwell lights

I got some extra superbright LEDs for a center storage console project I'm going to do and thought I'd use them to add light for the footwells like the LE.

Can anyone tell me what wire I need to tap so that the lights come on when the doors open?

Also, could someone with a LE take a picture of their footwell lights? Perhaps all vehicles have something prewired near that location that would work.

I have a 2008 model and have been looking at the 2007 lighting schematics - but haven't made much sense out of them yet.

Re: Adding footwell lights

I too want to add some lights to my footwell. I was thinking of just using some white neon tubes and putting one under the dash on each side and then wiring them to the courtesy overhead lights so they come on when the door opens and when the map lights on turned on.

I hate the idea of using neons, but don't know what else will work well. I though about LEDs but they roduce too much of a "point" of light and not dispersed light. Any ideas?

That would be cool i was just looking at that about 2 hours ago when counting how many led bulbs i needed to do the interior. i guess you could run wire from the door's courtesy lights. Tap into it from where it enters the door and just place your led in the footwell.

Re: Adding footwell lights

I found the brackets where the LE footwell lights go but can't locate the plug anyplace.

Anyway, the lights I got are bright enough to illumate the entire floor. However, I recently got some LED interior map lights (6 led type) that lights up the whole front - including the console areas. Not sure I need to do the mod now.

In any case, I'll probably have to wait until spring because it's too cold outside to do much work on the truck.

Re: Adding footwell lights

Eagerly awaiting this write up, I bought four LED tubes and I'm going to hook them up under each side of the dash and behind the front seats...would LOVE to see how this is done =)
