Plastic engine cover paint?

I've been dying to get my airbrush out again and firs thing that came to mind after seeing all these photos is the engine cover...

That being said for work i also do hand taped and sprayed graphics and was wondering what type of paint to use and would it just be easier with say krylon and still hold up to the heat?

I had a limited discussion with the "parts boy" at the local auto zone with no avail to my supprise...

shakkaka...

Re: Plastic engine cover paint?

I think a lot of people here had luck with Krylon Fusion. Since it's plastic, you'll have to go through the normal prep process for plastics if you don't use plastic-specific paints. Hope that helps.

Re: Plastic engine cover paint?

beleave it or not the paint i used was from a arts and crafts store and turned out to be water based. i just cleaned the cover good with dish liquid, sprayed it some---drank a few beers---sprayed it some more---few more beers---then after it dryed, i sprayed it with some rattle can clear. so far its been about two weeks and other than being a lil dirty, its still good. it wont let me post a pic.

Rattle can paint should hold fine with normal prep.

Re: Plastic engine cover paint?

I use Krylon Fusion Satin white as my base/primer..and I airbrush with Createx water colors. I use the water colors for 2 reasons.
1. Clean up is easy ..just 409 in a squirt bottle
2. Createx Water Colors can sit un cleared for days (I paint in my free time...which aint much.lol)..most acrylics and enamels have to be cleared within a certain amount of time.
